Michael
Leona L. (Reed) Michael, Wichita, formerly of Augusta, retired special education teacher, died on Sunday, March 12, 2006.
Funeral service was held today at Cochran Mortuary
with graveside service this afternoon at the Deer Creek Oklahoma Cemetery.
The daughter of Cherokee Strip settlers, J.W. and Lila Reed, Leona graduated from Lemont, Okla. high school and Tonkawa Junior College. She began teaching in a one room school in 1927. She later earned degrees from Northwestern in Alva, Okla., Phillips University and Emporia. From 1967 until retirement in 1972, Leona taught special education classes at Augusta High School. Her memberships included Upsilon Chapter, Alpha Delta Kappa, Business and Professional Women, Augusta First Christian Church.
In 1985, following the death of her husband, Carl Michael, she moved to Wichita, residing first at Twin Lakes and from 1993 until her death at Wichita Presbyterian Manor.
Survivors include: her daughter, Joyce Schneider of Wichita; son, James (Geraldine) Michael of London, England; grandsons, Jeff Schneider, Keith
(Brandy) Schneider of Wichita; two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; one niece; one nephew; several great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her husband, Carl, she was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
Memorials have been established with Good Samaritan Fund, c/o Wichita Presbyterian Manor, P.O.Box 20440, Wichita, 67208, and Riverside Christian Church, 1001 Litchfield, Wichita, 67203.
Cochran Mortuary in Wichita is in charge of the arrangements.
Willard B. Longfellow
Willard B. Longfellow, 90, Concordia, formerly of the Augusta area, retired business owner, died on Tuesday, March 14, 2006. Military graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, at Rosemound Cemetery, northwest of Republic.
He is survived by numerous friends, including Bobby and Patty Stanley of Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Meadowlark Hospice, 709 Liberty, Clay Center, 67432.
Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home of Concordia has charge of the arrangements.
Armel E. Dixon
Armel E. Dixon, 67, Wichita, retired self-employed painter and construction worker, died on Friday, March 10, 2006.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 17, at All Faiths Funeral Services in Wichita.
His survivors include: wife, Shirley; sons, Gregory (Diane) of Rose Hill, Gene Jr. (Michelle) of Haysville, and Curt; daughter, Gennette (Rod) Andersen of Wichita; brother, Jerry (Sandy) Atkinson of Augusta; sister, Avalon (Bill) Groh of Ketchum, Okla.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Gerald Dixon; mother and step father, Paulyne and Herald Atkinson; grandson, Joshua Dixon.
Arrangements by All Faiths Funeral Services in Wichita.
Inez Douthitt
Inez Douthitt, 93, Barnesville, Ga., formerly of Augusta, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2006.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta. Those attending should use the 12th Street entrance.
Mrs. Douthitt was bom in Barry County, Mo., on March 9, 1913, the daughter of John Edward and Orleana Ray (Stever) Chappell. Inez was a native of Mano, Mo., and had lived in Augusta before moving to Barnesville, Ga. several years ago. She was a homemaker and had been a member of First Baptist Church in Augusta.
She is survived by: a daughter, Janet Powell and her husband, Arthur of Barnesville, Ga.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Franklin Douthitt; son, Glen Douthitt; six brothers and two sisters.
Headley Funeral Chapel of Augusta is in charge of the arrangements.
Patricia “Pat” Murrow
Patricia “Pat” Murrow, 74, Rose Hill, Via Christi St. Joseph Campus director of nursing, mother and mother-in-law of Bonnie and Jon Toombs of Augusta, died on Saturday, March 18, 2006.
Rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday; funeral mass at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, all at St. Mary Faith Center.
Visitation from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, at Smith Mortuary in Derby.
Other survivors include: sons, Robert Jr. of Wichita and Michael of Loveland, Colo.; daughter, Constance of Lawrence;
sister, Joyce Jordan of Pensacola, Fla.; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Murrow.
Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Mortuary in Derby.
