Audine M. Bates

Audine M. Bates, 94, was born in Butler County, near Leon, on October 2, 1911, and died in Lakepoint
Nursing Center, Augusta, on Wednesday, May 17, 2006.
Audine was a resident of Augusta for 73 years.
The funeral will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 20 at Headley Funeral Chapel, 813 State Street, Augusta.
Visiting hours will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 19, at Headley Funeral Chapel.
Audine was the daughter of Russie and Eliza Clark. She graduated from Towanda High School, in 1929 and began teaching in a one-room Butler County school that same year.
She taught two years at Whitewater, KS, and three years at Elm Creek School, northeast of Augusta.
Audine married Harvey C. Bates of Augusta on August 27, 1933. They were married in his grandmother’s
home at 337 Main Street and raised their three children, Janice, Karen, and Kent, to adulthood in that home. Harvey died in 1971, and after his death, Audine completed their home at 1215 Euclid St., where she lived alone until 10 days before her death.
Audine was preceded in death by her daughter Karen, and her sister, Delma “Dode” Wilson (husband Woody) as well.
Audine is survived by her son Dr. Kent Bates and his wife Sharon, Chillicothe, IL; her daughter Janice and her husband, Dr. Lewis Patterson, Westlake, OH; her
brother, Dr. Wayne Clark and his wife Shirley, Bella Vista, AR; her grandchildren, Aaron Bates, Naperville, IL; Elizabeth Patterson Supinski and husband Mark, Monument, CO; and Dr. Sarah Bates and husband Lt. Chris Czaplak, La Plata, MD; her great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Alexander, and Catherine Supinski, Monument, CO, as well as her special neighbors and many friends and relatives.
Audine was a member of the First Christian Church of Augusta and served on its board when she was President of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She served more than 9 years as
the church’s wedding reception manager. She belonged to the Friday Review Club of Wichita, was active in PTA and was a leader for Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts.
Donations may be made in her memory to LakePoint Nursing Center of Augusta or a charity of choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta.

Harold L. Larson

Harold L. Larson, 73, Wichita, retired expediter for the United States Postal Service, brother and brother-in-law of Opal and Melvin Alford of Augusta, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2006.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Wichita. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Vilas (Kan.) Cemetery.
Visitation until 8 p.m., with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Hillside Funeral Home West in Wichita.
Other survivors include: wife, Gayle of Wichita; son, Martin of Wichita; daughter,
Erin Wells (Michael) of Rose Hill; sisters, Dorothy Schaal and Evelyn Grady, both of Chanute; two granddaughters; stepfather, Dale Shepard of Chanute; nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be given to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, both in Wichita.
Arrangements by Hillside Funeral Home West of Wichita.

Rex Lyle Michel

Rex Lyle Michel, 77, Augusta, died on Tuesday, May 16, 2006.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Simmons-Olliff-Boeve Chapel in Smith Center.
Survivors are: son, David; stepson, Randall McAmis; daughters, Joann McKean and Ann Pashman; brother, Kenneth; sister, Nedra Rexroat.

Frances K. Stark

Frances K. (Martin) Stark, 74, Wichita, homemaker, mother and mother-in-law of Michael and Sandy Martin of Augusta, passed away on Friday, May 19 2006.
Visitation from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday; funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, both at Hillside Funeral Home East in Wichita.
She is survived by: her husband, Robert Stark; son, Patrick Martin of Overland Park; daughter, Kathi Cockrum of Wichita; step daughter, Mary Ann Heindel of Tampa, Fla.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Martin, and a grandson, Shane Martin.
Memorials may be given to the Kansas Humane Society, 4218 Southeast Blvd., Wichita, 672
