Two die in train, car crash Saturday

A mother and daughter were killed Saturday night after their car was struck by a train near SW 60th St. and Purity Springs Rd., northeast of Augusta.
Butler County Sheriff Craig Murphy reported that Dylan Bilson, 15, was driving his new 1996 Ford Probe, with his mother, Molissa Bilson, 36, his 7-year-old sister, Abigail, and his 3-year-old sister, Molly Bilson in the car. They were returning home from the store when the car stalled on the train track.
Dylan tried pushing the car off the track and when it became apparent that he wasn’t going to be able to get the car off the tracks and out of the way of an oncoming train, he pulled out his
sister, Abigail. His mother, Molissa and sister, Molly were unable to escape in time.
At the time of the accident, the eldest daughter, 17, and her father, David Bilson were at home.
Sheriff Murphy stated that Molissa Bilson was pronounced dead at the scene and Mollie died later at Wesley Medical Center.
Butler County Sheriffs Office, the BNSF Railroad Company, and the Kansas Highway Patrol are all conducting investigations on the tragic accident.
Funeral services for both Molissa and Mollie Bilson will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, at the First Christian Church in El Dorado. Carlson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Friends, teammates and coaches at Circle High School have started a fund for the Bilson family. For more information, contact Circle High School in Towanda at 321-1557.
