Catharine L. Walker
Catharine L. Walker, 97, Augusta, passed away on Monday, Feb. 2,2009.
Viewing from 1-8 p.m. ''n Thursday, with family present from 6’-7 p.m., and service at 10 a.m. on Friday, all at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Burial will be at Towanda Cemetery.
Catharine was born in Wichita on Jan. 20,1912.
She is survived by: daughters, Yvonne Brunson of Augusta and Joan Walker of Redwood City, Calif.; daughter-in-law Kris Walker; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grand-children;numerous great-great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Holliss "Heavy" Walker; daughter, Patricia Con-rique; son, Maynard Walker; parents, Franklin and Carrie (Cupp) Smith; sister, Laverna Berner; half brothers, Herschel, Cecil, and Floyde "Pick" Straw; half sister, Adah Straw Wothington; grandparents, Dan and Sarah Cupp and Rev Franklin and Amanda Smith.
She and "Heavy" ran one of the two restaurants at Haverhill corner, she cooked at the Elks club in Augusta, she was a licensed practical nurse, worked at Mid Kansas community action program, she was a cook for eight years at the Haverhill grade school, she was a 4-H leader, a member of Butler Co. extension, she was a 50 + year member
of the Rebecca Lodge in Leon. She lived in the "big" town of Haverhill for 53 years and moved to country club towers in Augusta in October 1990.
Reverend Howard Cupp, Jr. of Clinton, Missouri will be doing the service. Howard is Catharine's first cousin.
Memorials to Wheat State Manor in Whitewater or Haverhill Christian Church.

Ronald D. Dowell, 51, of Leon, passed away Monday, Feb.2,2009.
Viewing 1-8 p.m. Thursday and service at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, all at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Ronald was born in El Dorado on Feb. 10, 1957; the son of Robert B. and Kathryn (Tabor) Dowell. He worked as a truck driver at H & K Trucking.
He is survived by: his girlfriend, Doris Hill of Wichita; sons, Ronald J. 'Barney' Dowell and fiance Amber of Wichita, Devin Dowell and wife Britta of Augusta, and Clayton 'Skeeter' Dowell of Leon; mother, Kathryn Dowell of Augusta; brothers, Floyd Dowell and wife Cathryn, Donald Dowell and wife Twyla both of Leon, and Lloyd Dowell
and wife Sandy of Augusta; sisters, Judy Sharp of Haysville, and Kathy Latimer and husband Marvin of Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ronald D. Dowell memorial fund do Doris Hill or Devin Dowell at Intrust Bank.

John Wayne Bachtel
John Wayne Bachtel, 71, Northglenn, Colo., passed away on Jan. 25, 2009.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, Jan . 29.
John was born on Jan. 18, 1938 in Wichita to John Willis and Lucile (BirdO Bachtel. He attended schools in Augusta and graduated with the AHS Class of 1957. He continued his education at Butler County Community College and the University of Kansas. On Feb. 1, 1961, he married Janet Dombaugh in El Dorado. He graduated from KU in 1962 with a degree in electrical engineering. Following graduation he began his career with Western Electric in Chicago, 111. In 1965 he was transferred to Denver, Colo, and retired in 2000. Not ready to give up his interest in
electrical engineering, he began working for IBM and retired from there in 2007. John traveled to all 50 states and many other countries during his career.
His survivors: wife,
Janet; daughters, Debbie (Rob) Tapp and Melanie (Jeff) Erickson; father, J.W. Bachtel of Augusta; sisters, Barbara Cerney and Betty (Gary) Beach; grandchildren, Kyle Ches-nick, Jessica Tapp, Joseph Tapp, and Kaden Erickson; many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucile.
Donations in his memory may be made to the MPD Foundation, 233 South Wacker Dr., Suite 375, Chicago, IL 60606.
Arrangements were by the Olinger Highland Mortuary in Thornton, Colo.

Bullock
Albert E. Bullock, 72, Leon, Boeing engineer, died on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009.
Visitation with family from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday; service at 10 a.m. Friday, both at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
Survivors: companion, Pat Cummings; son, Jeff Bullock; daughter, Brenda Scott; stepdaughters,
Leann Boucher, Becky Cryderman, Kelly Shelton, and Jamie Cummings; three
grandchildren and one great-grandson.
