Paul E. Cyphers
Paul E. Cyphers, 91, lifelong resident of Augusta, passed away
Thurs day, April 8, 2010, his birthday, while vacationing in Palm Desert, Calif.
Visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Service will be 11 a.m. on Friday, April 16,2010 at the First Christian Church, Augusta. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Paul was born three miles south of Augusta, Kansas in an oil field area known as the "Pipeyards," just over the hill from Browntown School, to Elmer Elza and Grace Lulu (Harper) Cyphers.
At the time there were three other children in the family: Violet, the oldest, born in 1910;
Milam A. (Mike), (1913) and Doris (1916). Later additions to the family after his birth in 1919, were Robert H. (1922); James E. (1924) and Harold D. (Dean) in 1927. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a B-25 pilot flying over the Philippines.
Paul and his brother Mike were part owners of the local paper, the Augusta Daily Gazette, from 1946 to 1963. He then worked for the Wichita Eagle from 1963 to his retirement in 1984, first as a Linotype machinist and then, after financing his own learning, computerized type-setting machine
assembly and maintenance. After retiring, Paul continued to enjoy reading, learning computer skills, travel and church work.
Paul, as well as being a Deacon and Elder of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was Board Chairman for four terms beginning in 1960, when the Board initiated planning and fund-raising for a new church building. He was also a member of the Augusta Library Board during the period when a new library building was authorized and constructed.
On Oct. 4,1942 he married Frances Maxine Swanson at Hyde Park United Brethren Church, Wichita. Frances preceded him in death on May 6,2003. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Violet in 1970,
Mike in 1982, Jim in 2000, Doris in 2002 and daughter- in-law Sharon Cyphers in 2008.
He is survived by sons, Stan Cyphers of Fairway, and Don Cyphers and wife Phyllis of Palm Desert, Calif.; grandchildren, Scott Cyphers and wife Leslie of La Quinta, Calif, and Alex Cyphers and wife Jen of Denver, Colo; and great- grandchildren, Brannum Scott Cyphers and Clara Anne McNenney Cyphers of Denver.

Margaret Lucinda Weathers, 80, Douglass, homemaker, died on Friday, April 9, 2010.
A celebration of hier life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13, at the First Baptist Church in Douglass.
Survivors include: sons, Richard (Glinda) of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Roger (Janice) of Westminster, Colo., Robin (Janet) of Roca, Neb.,
Ron (Jolene) of Buffalo, Texas; daughter, Reva of Augusta; brothers, Fred Moses of Houston, Texas, Paul Moses Sr. of Douglass, and William Moses Jr. of Angleton, Texas; sister, Marilyn Hoppe of Grand Junction, Colo.;
22 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Jolly Seniors or Baptist WMU, both in care of First Baptist Church, 107 S. Maple, Douglass, KS 67039.
Dennis C. Mallott
Dennis C. Malott, 63, Udall and formerly of Augusta, retired parole director, died on Thursday, April 8, 2010.
Memorial service was held today.
He is survived by: his loving wife, Maureen; sons, Willard Carl Malott and Jason Quinn Malott; daughter, Amber Nicole Malott; sister, Helen J. Turner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Dorothy (Dennis) Malott.
Arrangements by Compassionate Cremation Society, Derby.
