Donald R. Ruggles

Donald R.
Ruggles, 88, of Augusta, passed away, Monday, Aug. 23,2010 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
Viewing 1-7 p.m. Friday at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta with family to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A service to celebrate his life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28,2010 at the First Christian Church, Augusta. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Donald was born in Winfield on Oct. 9,1921, the son of the late Jesse R. and Ora A. (Kennedy) Ruggles.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Phillipines, New Guinea and New Hebrides as a radar search light artillery battery member and a gun crew member on liberty ships. Donald started working at Wichita Iron Works and also worked as a mechanic for Charlie Bacon Studebaker. He retired as a machinist supervisor from Mobil Pipeline after working from 1948 until 1984. Don was a member of First Christian Church the DAV, VFW and American Legion. On April 11, 1942 he married Betty Lou (Chalmers) in Winfield and she preceded him in death. A daughter, Marilyn Potts also preceded him in death.
He is survived by: sons, Larry Ruggles and wife Lorean of Scottsdale, Ariz., Paul Ruggles and wife Karen of Bellingham, Wash., Chris Ruggles and wife Diane of Augusta; daughter, Bonnie Ruggles of Augusta; sister, Doris Rorer of Nixa, Mo.; grandchildren, Michelle Ruggles, Joe Summers, Patricia Mallory, Katlyn Greenley, Donna Trillo, Kim Garrett, Andrea and Susan Ruggles, Ann Marie Beaulieu, Vickie Salisbury, Amy and Justin Steele, Brent Ruggles and Jamie Klem; and 16 great- grandchildren.
