Ursula Metsker

Ursula Celestia (Neuwirth) Metsker, 77, Wichita, retired accountant, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 26,2010.
Funeral mass was held on Monday, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment was at the Douglass Cemetery.
She is survived by: sisters, Marietta Sullivan of Augusta, Geraldine Dellinger of Calif., Zueletta Mayer and Donna Lea Fitzpatrick, both of Wichita; numerous nephews and nieces; and special caregivers.
Memorials established with Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 124 N. Roosevelt, Wichita, KS 67208; Sedgwick County Historical Museum, 204 S. Main, Wichita, 67202; the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, 514 Poplar St., Columbia, PA 17512.

Charles N. Thorpe

Charles N. Thorpe, 86, Wichita, retired senior vice-president and chief financial officer of the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank, and World
War II U.S. Navy veteran, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 26,2010.
Service was held this morning at the United Methodist Church in Andover.
Survivors include: his wife, Margaret; sons,
Dick (Glenda) Thorpe of Columbis, SC and Dean
American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, II 60674, and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.

Fern Gibson

Fern (Maness) Gibson, 92, formerly of Douglass, passed Thursday, Aug.
26, 2010 in Decatur, Texas.
A graveside service was held Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010 at the Douglass Cemetery with Keith Cross officiating.
Fern was born on Oct. 27,1917 to Conrad and Mary (Ragsdell) Maness in Sterling, Okla. She married Allen H. Gibson on May 28, 1936 in El Dorado. During WWII, Fern worked at Beech Aircraft in Wichita and later worked for John Deere and Morris Oil Company in El Dorado. Fern was a member of the Church of Christ in Douglass and American Legion Auxiliary.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Allen; three brothers,
Sam Amon Maness, James Maness, and Willard Maness; two sisters, Mildred (Maness) Glavesand Gladys (Maness) Mitchell.
She leaves to mourn her passing numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. this evening at Dunsford-Zeiner Funeral Home, Augusta. Graveside service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1 at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Born on Nov. 7, 1911 to Carl (Charles) and Freida Mahlandt, she lived most of her life in Butler County. After earning a teaching certificate from Kansas State Teachers College, she taught in rural schools. On April 26,
1936, she married Dan Helmer; he preceded her in death. In addition to being a homemaker and working on the family farm, she was a grain elevator bookkeeper. She was a long-time member of Christ Lutheran Church, Augusta.
She is survived by: three children, Daniel Helmer, Augusta, Sharon (Harry) Stephens, Emporia, and Shirley Helmer, Kansas City; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Christ Lutheran Church, Augusta, Messiah Lutheran Church in Emporia and the Emporia Public Library, and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
