Mildred E. Stovall

Mildred E. (Schambron) Stovall, 88, loving wife, mother and grandmother,
Augusta, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 after suffering from several prolonged health issues.
Mildred was born to Willie and Minnie (Gilbert) Schambron on Oct. 13, 1922 on a farm north of Lincolnville, Kan. At an early age her family moved to town, where she attended Lincolnville public schools and graduated from high school in 1940. She worked in Newton for a short time and then worked at Star's Drug Store in Peabody. During World War II, she worked at Cessna Aircraft. In July of 1944, Mildred met the love of her life, Bill Stovall. They were married on Dec. 28, 1944 before Bill left for Europe during World War II. Upon his return from overseas, they lived in Oklahoma City for a short period of time. They then moved to Wichita, where they made their home and started their family.
They had two children, a son, William Joe (Bill) and daughter, Susan. After Mildred's youngest child began school, she worked at Boulevard State Bank as a teller for 5 years. She then went to work at General Motors Acceptance Corporation as a cashier, where she worked until her retirement in May of 1981. During that time they lived in Goddard for 10 years. In 1977, they moved to a farm in rural Augusta. Throughout the years she enjoyed being involved in church groups and organizations. Mildred spent her retirement years doing chores on the farm, baking great cookies and candy, gardening and canning, tending to her flower gardens, and embroidering and making
quilts. Mildred's greatest joy was always her husband of 66 years, her children, and her grandson. For those that knew and loved her, Mildred will always be in our memories and forever in our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Minnie Schambron; her sister, Helen Olenberger; and her brother, Ollie Schambron.
Mildred is survived by her husband, Bill Stovall of the home; son,
William Joe “Bill” Stovall of Augusta; daughter, Susan Hughes and husband, Rob of Rose Hill; and grandson, Cody Hughes and wife, Gretchen, of Ft. worth, Texas; numerous relatives and friends.
