Mother dies in Texas at 64
Anna Meek, 64, Wichita Falls, Texas, mother of Glynda Maness of Augusta, died Wednesday at a hospital there.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ in Burkburnett, Texas. Kale Martin and Johnny Tate will officiate and burial will be in the Burkburnett cemetery.
She was born Nov. 11, 1919 in Grand Saline County, Texas, to Charlie and Lila Curry Shepherd.
She married Lonnie Meek. He survives.
She was a housekeeper supervisor for the Texhoma Christian Care Center in Wichita Falls.
Other survivors include sons Lonnie Ray Meek of Las Vegas, Nev., Johnny Meek of Grand Prairie, Texas; daughters, Etta Miller of Lake Jackson, Texas, Sylvia Davis of Wichita Falls, Mary Dodson of Lubbock, Cathy Robb of Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Jim Shepherd of Trinidad, Texas and a sister, Ruby Meek of Wichita Falls; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Owens & Brumley Funeral Home at Wichita Falls is in charge of arrangements.
Ex-Augustan buried Tuesday
Mr. and Mrs. H. Wayne Miller of Augusta have returned from Bakersfield, Calif., where they attended the Tuesday funeral of Brooks Eastman, a former Augustan.
Eastman, a retired Santa Fe Railroad yardmaster, was the brother-in-law of Mrs. Miller.
Memorial set for Z.F. Maher
A memorial has been established with the Leukemia Society of America for Zelora Fern Maher of Augusta who died Wednesday at a Wichita hospital.
Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Cumberland cemetery, southeast of Augusta.
William Shaver dies at 80
William “Buss” Shaver, 80, Douglass, died this morning at the Douglass Nursing Center.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Douglass United Methodist Church. Rev. Janet Sevier will officiate and burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Douglass Public Library.
He was born March 30, 1904 in Carney, Okla., to David M. and Rebecca Ann Palmer Shaver.
He married Bertha Fae
Shields Nov. 24, 1929 in Derby. She preceded him in death.
He married Dorothy Polk March 29, 1980 in Winfield. She survives.
He was a retired farmer, member of the Douglass Lodge 151 AF&AM and a member of the Douglass United Methodist Church.
Other survivors include a son, Gerald of Douglass; daughters, Norma Branine of Winfield and
Judy Howell of Augusta; stepsons, Frank Polk of Phoenix, Ariz., Jim Polk and Bill Polk, both of Douglass, and Raymond Polk of Lawrence; stepdaughters, Juanita McCune of Rose Hill and Freda Gillum of El Dorado; brothers, Jewell Shaver of Wenatchee, Wash., John Shaver of Mont Rose, Colo., Fred Shaver and Claud Shaver, both of Douglass; 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass is in charge of arrangements.

Graveside services for Daniel Raymond Fike, 74, 640 Santa Fe, were at 1 p.m. today at the Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Wichita. He died Thursday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Survivors include two brothers, Virgil and John, both of Augusta. Their addresses were listed incorrectly in Friday’s Gazette.

Clarence Newman dies in Winfield
Clarence F. Newman, 83, Winfield, formerly of rural Douglass, died Friday.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield.
A memorial has been established with the church.
He was a retired school administrator, teacher and coach who taught in small towns in Kansas before retiring to Winfield in the mind 1960’s.
He also served as a lay minister and Sunday school teacher at the Methodist churches in many of the towns where he worked.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Scott Newman; sons, Franklin of Bozeman, Mont., and Everett of Cincinnati, Ohio and a daughter, Dorothy Dorsey of Derby.

Michael Ehrlich died Tuesday
Michael Ehrlich, 18, rural Augusta, died Tuesday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident Saturday.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Andover High School.
Sheriff’s officers believe Ehrlich fell asleep while driving Saturday. His Jeep went off the road and into a creek west of Augusta.
Two passengers, Mark A. Patterson, 16, Andover, and Melvin E. Remy, 19, Wichita, were able to escape from the submerged vehicle. They were unable to free Ehrlich.
Wendell Gene Turner of rural Augusta was able to pull Ehrlich’s body from the Jeep. Ehrlich was on a life support system since Saturday.
Old Mission Mortuary of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.
