Helen Applegate
Helen Lucille (Hodson) Miller,Applegate,
96, Raytown, Mo., formerly of Augusta, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2011.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m., with funeral serivce following at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, at Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta. Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 11, at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Helen was born on Oct. 29, 1914, the daughter of Roy and Elizabeth Shafer Hodson of Dallas County, Iowa.
Her early life was spent on the family farm. She attended school and graduated from Redfield High School in 1931.
She worshipped at the Shiloh Christian Church with her parents and four brothers and two sisters, all who have predeceased Helen.
On Dec. 14,1931,
Helen married Clarence Miller in Adel, Iowa.
They moved to northern Missouri and lived on several farms while raising their children. In 1957, Clarence and Helen moved to Augusta, where they made their home. Clarence passed away in 1985. Helen later married John Apple-gate, who preceded her in death in 1997.
To be closer to family, Helen moved in 2000 to Kansas City, Mo., where she resided until her death.
Helen was a member of the Allendale, Mo. Baptist Church. She had also been a member of the Augusta Southern Baptist Church, and the Nolan Road Baptist Church in Independence, Mo.
She is survived by: her children, Eleanor “Pat” Terry of Independence, Mo., Roberta and Frank Cordova of El Paso,
Texas, Linda Rossi of Lincoln, Neb., and Charles “Jim” and Kathleen Miller of Pawcatuck, Conn.; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Kansas City Hospice or Palliative Care, Ste. 110, 9221 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114, or in care of Dunsford Funeral Home & Crematory, Augusta.
Cathleen Wilson
Cathleen Sue (Williams) Wilson, 65, loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, Wilson sister, friend, and teacher, of El Dorado, passed away on July 6, 2011.
Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July, 11, at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home, El Dorado. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, at the El Dorado First Christian Church. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, at Stringtown Cemetery, Burlington, Kan.
She was born in Burlington, on May 4, 1946, to Roger and Clara Ruth Williams. Her childhood was spent on the family farm helping with cooking, sewing and doing chores. She had one older brother, Michael, two younger sisters, Sharon and Marianne, and one younger brother, Kim. She married David E. Wilson on Nov. 6,1964.
