Gib O’Dell dies at Independence
Thomas Gilbert “Gib" O'Dell, 71, Longton, father of Sandy Dowell of Augusta, died Wednesday at the Mercy Hospital in Independence.
His service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Longton United Methodist Church. Rev. John Vaughn will officiate and burial will be in the Longton Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and the Longton Senior Center.
He was born Sept. 20, 1912 in Sedgwick County to Thomas and Sara Seip O'Dell.
He married Juanita Ramsey June 5, 1936 in Wichita. She survives.
He was a retired rancher and member of the Longton Lodge 26 AF..AM and the United Methodist Church there.
Other survivors include daughters, Coeta Bowman of Eugene, Ore., Sara Nell Crowell, Cinda Cates, both of Longton, Judy Warren of Sprinfield, Mo.; brother, Orvis of Florence; sisters, Irene Alexander, Lola Biggs, both of Bentley; 23 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Rose Hill woman dies at home
Louise Ann Wohlschlegel, 86, of rural Rose Hill, died Sunday at her home.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Harper (Kan.) Cemetery. Rev. Glen Leimer will officate.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.
Miss Wohlschlegel was born Dec. 23, 1897 in Harper to David and Kathryn Wohlschlegel.
She is survived by: a brother, Joseph Wohlschlegel of Harper ; and a sister, Mrs. Paul Bear of Rose Hill.

Former sheriff dies in Oklahoma
Services were held last Friday at Reed-Culver Funeral Home in Tahlequah, Okla, for Hobart Auer Jr., 62, of Park Hill, Okla., and formerly of Augusta.
Auer, who was born in Augusta on Feb. 5, 1922, died last Wednesday, July 18, at Tahlequah City Hospital. He was buried in Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Auer served as sheriff of Butler County from 1965-66 before becoming an undersheriff for Sedgwick County. He then went on to serve as a federal agent in Kansas City, Mo.
Auer was a member of the Shrine Temple in Wichita and Disabled American Veterans Tenkiller Unit No. 5.
Survivors include his wife, Ann, of Park Hill; sons, Jim Auer of Beaumont, Texas, Vic Auer of El Dorado; a daughter, Laura Auer of Wichita; stepsons, Randy Young and Ken Young, both of Augusta; a stepdaughter, Bannie Scott of Gardner; a brother, Lewis E. Auer of Pittsburg, Mo.; stepsisters, Betty Diner of Prairie Village, and Mary Ann Carpenter of Wichita; and 10 grandchildren.

Tuesday funeral
for area woman
Edith M. Engle, 95, of Douglass, died Saturday at the Douglass Nursing Center.
Her service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Douglass United Methodist Church. Rev. Dan Ferguson will officiate and burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and the Hospice of Winfield.
Mrs. Engle was born Nov. 30, 1888 in Douglass, and she remained there throughout her life. She married Walter Engle on May 15, 1910, and took up the occupation of homemaker.
Walter Engle preceded his wife in death.
She was a member of the Douglass United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors are: sons, Jack Engle of Wichita, Ned Engle of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Ella Keely of Udall; a sister, Mary Sutton of Douglass; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
The Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home of Douglass is in charge of arrangements.

Rites pending
Robert L. Harp, 87, the father of Norma Cauthron of Augusta, died today at his home in Hartford, Ark.
Funeral arrangements are pending at McConnell Funeral Home in Hartford.

Louise Ann Wohlschlegel, 86, of rural Rose Hill, died Sunday at her home.
A graveside service was conducted Tuesday at the Harper cemetery.
A brother, Paul Wohlschlegel of Harper, was left out of a list of survivors in Monday's Gazette.
