Melvin Nelson died in Wichita
Melvin S. Nelson, 504 Sunflower, Augusta, 62, died Sunday in Wichita.
His service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Richard Axmann of Augusta’s First Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Nelson was born to Theodore and Ruth Nelson on March 29, 1922 in South Coffeyville, Okla.
He married Marilyn Shetler in Coffeyville, Kan. on Nov. 30, 1945. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Robin S. Nelson of Wichita; brothers, Donald Nelson of Coffeyville, Max Nelson of Topeka; sisters, Virginia Ireland of Oklahoma City, Marjorie Vadnois and Shirley King of Washington state; Sybil West and Sue Esparsa of Detroit, Mich. Carol Combs of Pryor, Okla; Nancy Craig of Dallas, Texas.
Mr. Nelson also has two surviving grandchildren.

Ethel MacKay dies in Wichita
Ethel R. MacKay, 57, Route 1, Douglass, died Sunday at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church. Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday at St. James. Father David Cushing will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born Jan. 31, 1927 in Castleton to Robert Peter Simon and Ida Martha Seiler. She married James KacKay June 12, 1948 in Augusta. Her mother, Ida Simon of Augusta, and husband survive.
She was a homemaker and member of St. James Catholic Church.
Other survivors include four sons Marvin, Paul and Gregg, all of Douglass and Ronald of Mulvane; one daughter Teresa MacKay of Douglass; seven brothers, Cletus Simon of Syracuse, LeRoy Simon, Elmer Simon, Eugene Simon and Earl Simon, all of Augusta, Dennis Simon of Dodge City and Kenneth Simon, Douglass; five sisters, Thelma Hoge, Doris Proctor, Mary Anderson, all of Augusta, JoAnn Heimerman of Wichita and Betty Hanson of Janesville, Wise.; and seven grandchildren.
Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and Arthritis Foundation.

Fred Rhine’s brother died
Lyle V. Rhine, 87, Paragould, Ark., brother of Fred A. Rhine of Augusta, died July 27.
His services were at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould July 29 and burial was in a Paragould cemetery.
He was a graduate of Kansas State University in Manhattan. He was principal of schools at Wamego. Then he studied law and set up practice at Paragould. There he also served as city and county judge.
Other survivors include his wife Olga of the home, and two sisters, Margaret Sharone of Matthews, Va., and Myrl Mueller of Paragould.
Ethel R. MacKay mass Wednesday
A funeral mass for Ethel R. MacKay, 57, rural Douglass, will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. James Catholic Church in Augusta.
She died Sunday at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita. Burial will be in the Elmwood
Cemetery.
Father David Cushing will officiate. The rosary will be said at St. James Catholic Church at 7:30 tonight.
