Wilma Shutt dies at 82
Wilma Cummings Shutt, 82, Winfield, mother of Bernice King of Augusta, died Monday at the Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.
Her services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Swisher Taylor & Morris Funeral Home. Rev. E.R. Houston will officiate and burial will be in the Highland Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 4, 1901 in Perkins, Okla., which was then in Indian Territory. Her parents were William and Anna Baker Cummings.
She married Glenn O. Shutt Aug. 18, 1920 in Elkhart. He preceded her in death Aug. 18, 1948.
She was a retired licensed practical nurse.
She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and the Walnut Valley Barracks of World War I Auxiliary.
Other survivors include a son, Melvin of Bartlesville, Okla.; daughters, Lucille Nichols of Salina, Okla.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

La Verne Boone dies in Wichita
La Verne “Dan” Boone, 75, of Wichita, the brother of Ruby Boucher, Augusta, died Wednesday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
His service is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Wichita. Rev. Leonard S. Cowan and Rev. Herbert V. Cocherill will officiate. Entombment will be in the Mission Chapel Masoleum, Wichita.
A masonic graveside service will also be held on Saturday by the Albert Pike Lodge of Wichita.
Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church of Wichita, 330 N. Broadway, and the American Heart Association, 2100 E. Douglass, Wichita.
Boone was born on Dec. 16, 1908 in Butler County. He owned and operated Boone General Tire in Wichita until his retirement in 1967.
He is survived by his wife, Olive.
Along with Mrs. Boucher, Boone is survived by a brother, Raymond of El Dorado.

Philip Lamb drowns in farm pond
Philip Duane Lamb, 17, 336 Clark, died Thursday morning in a pond near his grandparents’ farm in the Buffalo, Kan., area.
His service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Burl Allison Jr., will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 3, 1967 in El Dorado to Robert E. and Leah Arnold Lamb.
He was a junior at Augusta High School last year and was working as a stockboy at Wal-Mart this summer.
Survivors include his mother, Leah McLaughlin of Augusta; his father, Robert Lamb of Augusta; a brother Dylan R. Lamb of the home, and grandparents, Philip and Jewell Lamb of Fredonia, Claude and Irene Erwin of Andover, Ruth Arnold of Peabody, and Mr. and Mrs. Neil McLaughlin of Augusta.

Marland Tipton died in Wichita
Marland Tipton, 58, Route 3, died this morning at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
His service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
He was born Aug. 8, 1925 in Anadarko, Okla., to Sam Sanford and Rozella Crick Tipton.
He married Azalee Harris Mitchell in Newkirk, Okla., Jan. 16, 1975. She survives.
He was a retired Cessna Aircraft Mechanic.
Tipton was a member of the Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Other survivors include sons, Clay Tipton of Harrah, Okla., Bill Tipton of Bethany, Okla.; a stepson, Larry Mitchell of Augusta; a stepdaughter, Janice Miller of Augusta; brothers, Leonard Tipton, Santa Rosa, Calif., Vance Tipton of Bakersfield, Calif.; sisters, Marie Browner of Earlimart, Calif., Goldie Campbell of Delano, Calif., Ruth Penney of Moore, Okla., Billie Rose Kennedy of Bakersfield, Calif., Donna June McAdams of Atascadero, Calif.; eight grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
Dennis Wilcoxson dies at Elkhart
Dennis Wilcoxson, 91, Elkhart, a retired Nazarene church minister, died Thursday in Elkhart.
He was the brother-in-law of Verna Wilcoxson of Augusta.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday in Elkhart.
