Lawanda Michael
57, DOUGLASS
Lawanda Sue Michael, 57, passed away on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, while in the care of hospice at her home in Douglass.
A memorial service will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Lake Point Nursing Facility in Augusta.
Lawanda was born on March 6,1955 to Raymond and Emma Lou Thompson. She grew up with her family in Rose Hill and eventually found her calling in nursing. She was almost always smiling and cracking jokes with her fellow staff and the residents who she cared for. When it was time for Lawanda’s mother to move into Augusta LakePoint, she was able to rekindle some of those relationships. She began quilting to relieve stress and soon realized that she had a natural ability for the craft. Lawanda made numerous quilts for many friends and family over the yeas. She taught her daughter some of her techniques and shared with her that giving to others was one of the greatest joys in life. Her loving and caring nature truly knew no bounds.
Lawanda was married to Earl Michael and had her only child with former husband Gary Hickerson.
She is survived by: her husband of 26 years, Earl Michael of Douglass; brother, Richard Thompson and wife, Phyllis of Augusta; daughter, Susan Hardeman and husband, Ronald of Wichita; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in deaty by her parents and one sister, Loretta Tillery.
Rose Burden
83, SHELL KNOB, MO.
D. Rosella "Rose" Burden, 83, of Shell Knob, Mo. and formerly of Augusta, passed away Sunday,Jan. 27, 2013 in Augusta.
Visitation 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Headley Funeral Chapel and service 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery Augusta.
Rose was born in Viola, Kan. on Oct.3,1929, to the late Cora Emmarine (Miller) and Arthur Blair Dobbin. She retired as manager at Lehr's Motel. Rose loved making cookies, coconut cream and lemon pies for family and friends. She also enjoyed camping and boating with her family and friends. On July 4, 1948 she married Dean Wiley Burden at the Brethren Church in Mul-vane and he preceded Her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Pauline Scamma-horn, Bernadine Hen-drixson and Josephine Turner; and brother, Kenneth Dobbin.
She is survived by: her
children, Colleen Galgon of Shell Knob, Mo., Don and wife Linda of Augusta, Eileen Moore and husband Scott of Purdy, Mo., Merle and wife Gwen of Wichita, and Arthur Burden and wife Lisa of Augusta; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
