Lawanda Sue Michael, 57, passed away on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, while in the care of hospice at her home in Douglass.
A memorial service will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Lake Point Nursing Facility in Augusta.
Lawanda was born on March 6,1955 to Raymond and Emma Lou Thompson. She grew up with her family in Rose Hill and eventually found her calling in nursing. She was almost always smiling and cracking jokes with her fellow staff and the residents who she cared for. She began quilting to relieve stress and soon realized that she had a natural ability for the craft. Lawanda made numerous quilts for many friends and family over the yeas. She taught her daughter some of her techniques and shared with her that giving to others was one of the greatest joys in life. Her loving and caring nature truly knew no bounds.
Lawanda was married to Earl Michael and had her only child with former husband Gary Hickerson.
She is survived by: her husband of 26 years, Earl Michael of Douglass; brother, Richard Thompson and wife, Phyllis of Augusta; daughter, Susan Hardeman and husband, Ronald of Wichita; many nieces and nephews.
