Max Mason
84. AUGUSTA
Max Leburn Mason, 84, has "gone fishing." He suffered a fall on Sunday,
April 7, 2013 and passed away on Monday, April 15, 2013, in his home surrounded by his family, with his loyal four legged companion, Amy, lying by his side.
The celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013 in Eastminster Presbyterian’s sanctuary, 1958 N. Webb Rd., Wichita.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Memorial Gardens, Miller, Mo.
He is survived by: son, Steve Mason and his wife, Becky of Little Rock Ark., daughter, Pam Mason of Hickory Creek Texas, and son, Greg Mason of Andover; grandaughter, Hannah of Andover; half-brother, Larry Mason of Cinebar, Wash.; half-sister, Kay Chase of Williamsburg, Va.; and half-brother, Reese Mason of Joplin, Mo.
Max was preceded in death by: his wife, Nellie Ann; a son, Mark; his mother and step-father, Ruth and Paul Orr; his father and step-mother, Glen and Dot Mason.
Max was born Sept.15, 1928, in Miller, Mo. He was a Korean War veteran. He was a 1946 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, Mt. Vernon Mo. and attended Park College, Kansas City, Mo., and Southwest Missouri State, Springfield, Mo. He was a district sales manager for the Ralston Purina Company in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri. After retiring from Ralston Purina in the mid 1980's, Max became an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance of Andover. He was a member of the Augusta Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge, Good Sams Travel Club and the infamous Moose Club of Aurora, Mo. As an avid outdoorsman Max truly enjoyed the beauty of the Kansas Flint Hills, either shooting quail or hunting deer. After first ice out, it was on to Cormorant, Manitoba in pursuit of northern pike and walleye. He traveled extensively with his wife, Nellie Ann, by pulling their fifth wheel to Alaska or McAllen, Texas. Max was very proud of his family. We think that out of all his accomplishments, it was showing his love and devotion as mom’s caregiver that has meant the most.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Harden Hospice of El Dorado, Ks. and/or to the Kansas Humane Society.
