AUGUSTA
James W. Thompson, 86

James Wesley Thompson, 86, passed away Monday, Nov. 11,2013.
Memorial service to be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14,2013, at the Augusta First Christian Church, 1600 State St.
He was born Oct.23, 1927 in Augusta, the son of T.B. “Jack” and Ida BeHe Thompson. James was an Independent Petroleum geologist and a member of both AAPG and KGS for over 50 years. Oil exploration was a treasure hunt to him and was his true passion.
As a young man he enjoyed building model aircraft, he learned to fly at age 16, and continued his love of aviation through ife.

James celebrated his 46th year of sobriety this year, and was a mentor to many through Alcoholics Anonymous. His Christian faith was central in his life.
He married the love of his life, Barbara Sweeney Thompson, on Nov. 1,1949. She survives along with their three children, Mark (Nell) of Wichita, Robbie (Traci) of Council Grove, and Laura (Jeff) Tuttle of Wichita; seven grandchildren, Staci (Eric) Swalley, Molly (Mike) Jin, Ashley (Tanner) Buchman, James Thompson, Liz Thompson, Erin Tuttle, and Zack Tuttle; six greatgrandchildren, Gavin, Kohin, and Sorin Swalley, Jaxon and Drew Buchman, all of Council Grove and Julie Jin of Leesburg Va; his sister Elsie Lehr of Augusta and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Arthur Thompson, and sisters Dorothy Smitherman, Evelyn Thompson, and Margaret Neeley.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Alzheimer’s Association, 1820 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67214

James W. Pence, 65, Augusta, passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013.
Visitation Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta and service 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22,2013, at First Christian Church, Augusta. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
