Shirley Jean Walton, 87
Shirley Jean Walton, 87, of Augusta, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 in Andover. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec.
23, at First Baptist Church, Augusta. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Shirley was born in Waukegan, ILL., on April 25,1926. She was a school bus driver for Augusta schools and she was a church choir director in Sabetha, Wichita, Augusta and Derby. On Nov. 2,1947 she was married to Warren Dale Walton in Wichita. She is survived by a son, Gerald Warren Walton of Wichita; daughter, Sister Jean Ann Walton of Augusta; brother, Donald Boerup of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters, Nan Boerup, Eleanor Hoskinson and husband Glenn, all of Augusta, and Marilyn Patterson of Salem, Ore.; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends near and far. She was preceded in death by her birth mother, Amanda Hauri; parents, Mary Louise (Williams) Phelps and William Jennings Bryan Phelps; husband, Warren Dale Walton; brothers, Raymond and Thomas Boerup; and sisters, Harriet Boerup and Alice Whitwell. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to First Baptist Church Van Fund 1501 State Street Augusta, KS 67010.
