Sherman B. Parry, 88

Sherman B. Parry, 88, of Augusta, passed away Saturday, August 2,2014 at LakePoint in Augusta.
Service was held today at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta.
Entombment followed at Elmwood Cemetery Mausoleum, Augusta.
Sherman was born in Augusta on April 18, 1926, the son of the late Grace (Loomis) and Ward Parry, Sr. He graduated from Augusta High school and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Sherman attended the University of Kansas and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from Wichita State University. He retired from Boeing after 38 years as a purchasing manager. Sherman was a member of the Elks and Rotary Clubs, a Mason, and a member of the Midian Shrine.
On Sept. 1,1947 he married Nina June (Swan) Parry at the Augusta Methodist Church. She preceded him in death. A brother, Ward Parry, Jr. and a sister Virginia Kenward preceded him in death as well.
He is survived by: sons, Burt Parry and wife Patricia of Valley Center, and Roderick Parry of Chicago, 111.; daughter, Gail Coggins and husband Danny of Pampa, Texas; grandchildren, Shanna and Charlotte Coggins, Sherman Burt Parry III ’’Tray”, Natalie and Carley Dickter; one great-granddaughter, Harper; daughter-in-law, Sharon Parry.

Carl L. Metcalf, 84

Carl Lee Metcalf, 84, of Augusta, passed away Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014 in Augusta.
Visitation from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Graveside service 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Wichita.
Carl was born in Phoenix, Ariz. on Jan. 4,1930, to the late Edna Mae (Ansel) and Harold Metcalf. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Carl was a truck driver and chicken farmer most of his life. He was a member of Gideon’s International and Augusta VFW Post 6746. He married Georgia Annabelle (Ladner) on Oct. 10,1954 and she preceded him in death in July of 1959. On Dec. 18, I960 he married Evelyn (Coonfield) Metcalf in Ulysses, Kan. and she survives him.
He is also survived by: daughters, Deborah Sue Balerio and husband Andy of Buhler, and Patricia Carlene Byerlee and husband Gary of Wichita; step son, Kenneth Hill of Wichita; step daughters, Alice Hill of Eureka and Doris Coykedall and husband Berne of Towanda; sisters, Alberta Griffin of Broken Arrow, Okla, and Phyllis Sims of Mulldrow, Okla.; step sister, Delores McGee of Fruitland, Ind.; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Metcalf; sisters, Ro Etta Heldenbrand Hall and Carol Metcalf; step brother, Bennie Spitzig, and step sister, Dorothy Staedt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions maybe made to Gideon’s International, P. O. Box 471 Augusta, KS 67010.
