AUGUSTA
Ruby S. Kennedy, 92

Ruby Suvonia Kennedy, 92, Augusta, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 9,2014, at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12; fuqeral services at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, both at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita. Burial will follow at Green Valley Cemetery in Furley, Kan..
Ruby was born in Adona, Ark,, the daughter of Marion and Minnie Mash. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, playing cards, fishing, quilting, and spending time with family and friends. Ruby had recently started attending Hope Community Church in Andover.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister; daughter, Daphine Robbins; son, Jerry Thomas; 6 brothers; 2 sisters; sons-in-law, Billy, Danny and Bob.
Survivors include: her children, Montine (Melvin) Heinrich, Sue Thomas, Wanda Hattaway, Joyce Whitson, John (Patty) Thomas, Lynette (Richard) DuBois, Charles Kennedy, Brenda (Brad) Willour; 23 grandchildren; 41 greatgrandchildren; 12 great-greatgrandchildren.
Memorials have been established in her name and loving memory to the Victory In the Valley, 3755 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67218.

Billy ‘Bill’ D. Dennett, 93

Billy D. “Bill” Dennett, 93, of Augusta, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 3,
2014, at the Homestead of Augusta Assisted living.
Memorial and graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10,2014, at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
Bill was born in Rose Hill, to James Arthur and Viola Florence (Holcomb) Dennett on Sept. 2,1921. He lived his early years in Rose Hill, Browntown and Gordon. Bill married Evelyn “lone” Lynn on March 9,1943 in Las Vegas, Nev. They celebrated 70 years together. Bill was a member of the Kansas National Guard and served 5 years in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after 35 years of service. He was a member of Augusta Church of Christ. Bill was an avid collector of almost anything. He was an artist and did water color painting, whittling and leather tooling and enjoyed playing his banjo. After retirement he played in his hobby shop “Bills Corner” at the end of State St. He never knew a stranger and was always ready to share a story with anyone who happened to stop by.
Survivors include: a son, Darrel (Karen) of Newton; daughter, Doreen (Gene) of Manhattan; 4 grandsons, Darren, Dennis and Duaine Dennett, and-Steve Towne; one granddaughter, Paula (Towne) Schroeder; 7 great-grandsons; 1 great-granddaughter; 2 great-great-grandsons; close friends, Charles Ilsley and Lucky.
He was preceeded in death by his wife; parents; brother, Dale; and and infant brother, James.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Amedisys Hospice of Wichita, Augusta Historical Museum and Kansas Museum of Military. Contributions maybe sent in care of Headley Funeral Chapel.

Barten H. Smith, 91

Barten Harold Smith, 91, of Augusta passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2014.
Memorial graveside service 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13,2014, at Fairview Cemetery, Coffeyville, Kan.
Barten was born in Bethany, Okla, on Aug. 9,1923, to the late Jefferson Davis Smith and Connie Peele Smith. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII ir the 456th bomb group. Barten was a re tired eighth grade science teacher a Roosevelt Junior High, Coffeyville. Or Dec. 22, 1946 he married Lois Mari (Holcomb) Smith in First Baptist Church in Wathena, Kan. She preceded him in death. Barten was also preceded in death by brother, JD Smith and sister, Maxine Smith.
He is survived by: son, David Smith of Augusta; daughter, Cheryl Kaufman and husband Gene of Valley Center, son, Rev. Dick Smith and wife Diana of Augusta; daughter, Cathy Hoyt and husband Bill of Greeley, Colo.; sister, Naomi Plett of Liberal; 8 grandchildren, Sarah, Aaron and Anna Hoyt, Omar (Katie) Shifrin, Lillian Lance, Casey (Jessica) Smith, Katie (Aaron) Mussat, and Ken-zie Smith; and 6 great-grandchildren, Sam and Audrey Shifrin, Soren, Solomon and Scarlett Smith, and Amelia Wedel.
Memorial donations to Augusta First Baptist Church Youth.
