Billie J. Davis, 87

Billie Jean Davis, 87, of Augusta, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014.
Memorial service lp.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Burial will be at Latham Cemetery at a later time.
Billie was born in Winfield on Aug. 5, 1927, to the late Daisy (Price) Gregory and William Gregory.
Billie spent most of her life living in the Latham area. Some of her best memories were of the time she spent with her grandparents Clifford and Minnie Price in the “big red brick house” west of Latham. She was an active supporter of Latham community activities such as the Annual Fourth of July Celebrations and Latham Alumni Association. She was always interested in maintaining the little town and served at least one term as Mayor of Latham.
Billie retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1986, having worked as a rural mail carrier for more than 15 years. Following retirement, Billie and her husband Jack enjoyed nearly 20 years as winter Texans. There she enjoyed garage saling and visiting nursing homes with the Woody Acres Kitchen Band.
On Dec. 10,1945 she married William F. "Jack" Davis in Wichita, who survives her. She is also survived by: daughter, Betsy (Wayne) Whitehill, Patsy (Gary) Sphar and daughter, Jane (Alan) Boucher; brother, Jack Gregory of Waynesville, Mo.; grandchildren, Alex Sphar, Sam Sphar, Annie Whitehill, Hank Boucher, Emmett Boucher; great-grandchildren, Parker, Lily and Olivia.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Ottaway.

OVERLAND PARK
Margaret M. Bottom, 94

Margaret Mae (Lietzke) Bottom, 92, passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014 at Stratford Commons in Overland Park, Kan. She was a life-long resident of Augusta until 2006 when she moved to Overland Park to be closer to her daughter.
Visitation will be Sunday 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, at Headley Funeral Home in Augusta. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 6,2014, at Headley Funeral Home. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Margaret was born June 10,1922 on the Lietzke Farmstead in rural Augusta to Carl Frederick and Laura Britting Lietzke. On Aug. 20,1955, she married Billy Bottom of Augusta. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Augusta. She graduated from Augusta High School in 1939 and El Dorado Jr. College in 1944. She taught in a couple Butler County country schools, then taught fourth grade in the Augusta school system.
She is survived by: her daughter, Cheryl Hodgson and son-in-law Tim Hodgson of Olathe; two grandchildren, Bethany of Texas and Zach of Olathe; several great nephews and several great-great nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Frederick and Laura Britting Lietzke; her sister, Thelma Lietzke Skaer; her brother-in-law, Harold Skaer; nephew, Robert Skaer; niece, Barbara Stewart.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Augusta and Continua Home Health and Hospice.
