Roy Wallace dies at 92
Roy L. Wallace, 92, Winfield, father of Lyle Wallace of Augusta, died Friday.
Graveside services were at 4:30 p.m. today at the Highland Cemetery in Winfield.
A memorial has been established with the Cowley County Hospice Inc.
He was a retired Winfield Bus Service driver and farmer.
Survivors also include his wife, Lou; another son, Ward of Lakeland, Fla.; daughters, Emma Couch of Edmond, Okla.,
Lorene Hawkins of Winfield, Darlene Harper of Arkansas City; sister, Ruth Wallace of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Leo J. Korte died Monday
Leo John Korte, 71, Route 4, died yesterday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
The rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Father David Cushing will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Nov. 26, 1912 in Maize to Herman and Mary Lubbers Korte Sr.
He married Dorothy Simon May 20, 1941 in Colwich. She survives.
Other survivors include sons, Charles of Latham and Simon of Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter, Kathy Shoger of Augusta; brothers, Herman of Augusta and Harold of Colwich; sisters, Catherine Meyer of Clearwater, Adeline Jordan of Mt. Hope, and Theresia Pierce of Las Vegas, Neb., and eight grandchildren.
The Dunsford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ethel Spencer died at AMCI
Ethel Beatrice Spencer, 88, Augusta, died yesterday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Brooks of the First United Methodist Church will officiate and entombment will be in the Elmwood Mausoleum.
She was born May 19, 1896 near Latham to George Walter and Jennie Belle Hitchcock Downing.
She married Marion Osborn Spencer July 21, 1917 in Augusta. He preceded her in death in 1975.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.

K. Wayne Ayres dies in Pratt
K. Wayne Ayres, 74, Pratt, father of Lee Ann Griffith and brother of Allan V. Ayres, both of Augusta, died Tuesday at the Pratt Regional Medical Center.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Pratt First Baptist Church. Rev. Tom Harlan will officiate and burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery there.
Memorials have been established with the Pratt First Baptist Church and the Pratt Regional Medical Center Gifts and Bequests Committee.
He was born July 14, 1910 in Augusta to Melton and Edith Blanche Smith Ayres
He married Eleanor Gordinier Nov. 14, 1948 in Pratt. She survives.
He was a retired funeral director and partner of the Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary in
Pratt.
Ayres was a member of the Kansas Funeral Directors Association; a charter member of the Pratt Optimist Club, the International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Other survivors include another daughter, Sara Elizabeth Hampton of Pratt; a sister, Frances Kunce of Salina, and five grandchildren.

Tom Nichols dies at 73
Minor “Tom” Nichols, 73, Rock, died Wednesday at a Dexter nursing home.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home. Rev. Dan Ferguson will officiate and burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 17, 1911 in Litchfield County, Ky., to Jabe and Sarah Skaggs Nichols.
He married Wanda Stall March 8, 1939 in Pawhuska, Okla. She died in 1979.
He was a retired service station operator.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald of Cambridge and Darrel of Rock; a daughter, Audry Denton of Liberal; brothers, Cecil, Hayward, Wayward, Ralph, all of Winfield, and Taylor of Salina, Okla.; sisters, Edna Foster of Fairfax, Okla., Darlene McClure of Wichita, and Pearl McDonald of La Junta, Colo.; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
