Mattie Englebrecht rites to be Friday
Mattie Grace Englebrecht, 99, mother of Aletha Cummins of 1145 Henry Street, died at her daughter’s home Monday, Dec.31, where she had made her home in recent years.
Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at the Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center.
A memorial has been established with the New York Valley Church of God in Yates Center.
She was born March 5, 1885 in Bucyrus, Ohio, to Emmet and Martha Moore Hamlin.
She married John A. Englebrecht Feb. 16, 1916. He preceded her in death.
Other survivors include grandchildren, Lila Perry, Marilyn Swearingen, John Cummins, Jim Cummins, and Carol Fowler, all of Augusta, Robert Cummins of Douglass, and Bill Cummins of Wichita;
17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Carl Brewer Sr. dies at home
Carl Brewer Sr. of Douglass, died Monday at his home.
A private service will be tomorrow at the Douglass Cemetery. Rev. Bill Scott will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church in Douglass.
He married Wilma Ruth Mayo. She survives.
Brewer was a retired mechanic.
Other survivors include his son, Carl Jr. of Douglass; a daughter, June Wackel of California; a brother, Oscar Brewer of Anthony; a sister, Pearl White of Anthony; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass is in charge of arrangements.

W.I. Conley dies at AMCI
Willmer I. Conley, 91, a resident of the Augusta Medical Complex Long Term Care Facility, died Wednesday.
Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Stewart Chapel in McCune, Kan., and burial will be in the McCune cemetery.
She was born Aug. 2, 1893 in McCune to William and Eliza Ann Sale Clevenger.
She married William Conley Aug. 18, 1910 in Chetopa. He preceded her in death in 1980.
Survivors include a son, Charles of Cleveland, Texas; daughters, Donna Rogers of Dearing, Opal McCaslin of McCune, Ruth Ann Maple of Wichita; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Verna Liles dies in Arkansas
Verna Liles of Searcy, Ark., formerly of Augusta, died Dec. 18.
Her funeral was Dec. 20 at the Daniel Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Weir Cemetery near Searcy.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane Bowen of Searcy; a brother, Elza Stockton of Camden, Ark., a sister, Margie Wray of Harrison, Ark., and a grandson, Bo Bowen, and a great-grandchild, Sarah Bowen, both of Anchorage, Alaska.
Marcellus Simon
Marcellus C. “Sally” Simon, 65, Wichita, brother of Dorothy Korte of rural Augusta, died Dec. 28 in Wichita.
The funeral home reported an incorrect address for Mrs Korte earlier this week.

Brother dies in Arlington
Vern Banker, 84, Arlington, Kan., brother of Eldon Banker of Augusta, died at his home Wednesday.
His funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson. Rev. Dennis Wallace will officiate and burial will be in the Arlington cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the United Methodist Church in Arlington.
He was born Oct. 19, 1900 in Partridge to Willard and Estella Heller Banker.
He married Susie F. Starks May 15, 1927 in Wichita. She preceded him in death Feb. 3, 1984.
He was a retired farmer. Survivors include sons, Bill of Arlington and Joe of Oklahoma City, Okla.; another brother, Scott of Buffalo, Mo.; sisters, Mary Read of Indialatic, Fla., Opal Fox, Cadiz, Ohio and Velma Molz of Syracuse, and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Frank Chance dies at 82
Frank Burres Chance, 82, rural Rose Hill, father of Phyllis Mitchell and Olen Chance, both of Augusta, died today at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
The casket will be closed at the service. There will be a viewing at the funeral home.
He was born April 3, 1902 in Rose Hill to Tilghman and Sarah Ann Wells Chance.
He married Virginia Frances McCurry Sept. 21, 1927. She survives.
He was a retired Beechcraft employee and lived in southern Butler County all his life.
Other survivors include a sister, Elsie McKay of Douglass; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
