‘Don’ Taylor dies at 83
Richard “Don” Taylor, 83, Wichita, father of Lucinda Green of Douglass, died Monday at a Winfield hospital.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Culbertson-Smith Mortuary in Wichita. Rev. Clarence Borger will officiate and burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
He was born May 9, 1901 in Maysville, Mo., to George and Loretta Taylor.
He married Irene L. Long Sept. 16, 1926 in Leavenworth. She survives.
He worked in the pipeline division of the Derby Refining Co. in Wichita before his retirement.
Other survivors include two grandchildren, Shelby Green of Douglass and Madelyn Green of Wichita.

Dr. Ray Elliott dies at hospital
Dr. Raymond Elliott, 63, a Wichita dentist and son of former Augustans, died Sunday at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral will be 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Downing & Lahey Mortuary in Wichita. Rev. Larry Fry will officiate and burial will be in the Old Mission Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
He was born Oct. 25, 1921 in Dodge City to John and Laura Walker Elliott, former Augusta residents.
He married Lois Lane, who survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Robert L. Elliott of Kansas City, Kan., Donald R. Elliott of Shidley, Okla., and John S. Elliott of Wichita; a daughter, Betty Kaplan of Tucumcari, N.M.; two brothers, Donald J. Elliott of Houston, Texas, and Douglas Elliott of Wichita; a sister, Maxine Gallo of Hayward, Calif., and five grandchildren.

Bishop Carroll funeral mass
to be Wednesday
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -Bishop Mark Carroll, a native of Missouri who led the Wichita diocese of the Roman Catholic Church for 16 years starting in 1947, has died at the age of 88.
Carroll died Saturday at St. Joseph Medical Center, according to a statement issued by the Wichita diocese.
A Celebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Bishop Carroll will begin at noon tomorrow in St. Mary’s Cathedral in Wichita. He will lie in state at the cathedral until 10 a.m. tomorrow.
During the time that Carroll headed with Wichita diocese, more than 200 buildings were constructed by the church in the state. Among those was Bishop Carroll High School in Wichita, which was named in his honor.

Word received on brother’s death
Marion Williams, Mrs. Roe Cassity, Mrs. Bonnie Austin and Mrs. Mary Nutter, all of Augusta, have received word of the death of their brother, Ray Williams, in Tucson, Ariz.
Marion Williams left Saturday to be with the family in Tucson. Williams and his wife and Mrs. Cassity had come home after spending a week with Mrs. Ray Williams.

J.W. Watson dies at 50
Joseph William Watson, 50, Sand Springs, Okla., formerly of Augusta, died Monday at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.
Memorial services are at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mobley-Dodson Lakeside Funeral Home in Sand Springs, Okla.
He was born Oct. 19,1934 in Stoutland, Mo., to James and Ether Rickerson Watson.
He married Diane Gutrie in Maimi, Okla., Jan. 26, 1974. She survives.
Other survivors include his parents, James and Ethel Watson of El Dorado; sons, Zackery of the home, Dale of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kenny Whittaker of Sand Springs; daughters, Carol Hiese of Springtown, Texas, Phyllis Jarosz of Thornton, Colo.; brothers, Jim Watson of El Dorado, Bob Watson of Park City, Phil Watson and Norman Watson, both of Augusta; sisters, Edna Cox, Ann Simon, Karen Pruitt and Norma Copeland, all of Augusta, Sharon Simon of Douglass, and Gail Pendley of Fort Lupton, Colo., and six grandchildren.
A son, Joey Watson, preceded him in death.
