Mother dies in Augusta
Velma Charlotte Reeves, 72, Wichita, mother of Shirley Baugher of Augusta, died Sunday at Walnut Valley Manor.
Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Old Mission Funeral Home Chapel in Wichita. Burial will be in the White Chapel Cemetery there.
She was born Sept. 23, 1912 in Johnson County in Kansas to Oliver V. and Laura Bytha Oshel Wilson.
She married Shirley Richmond Reeves in Topeka May 31, 1937. He preceded her in death in 1977.
She was the former co-owner of the Boulevard Market in Wichita and a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church.
She was a life member of the PTA in Wichita.
Other survivors include sons, Clifford A. Reeves of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Charles Wilson Reeves of Wichita; a daughter, Bonnie Jo Fox of Detroit, Mich.; a half-brother, Jerry Wilson of Laurel, Md., and seven grandchildren including David Baugher, Annette Powers and Rick Baugher, and a great-grandchild.
Two brothers, Chester and Ernest Wilson, preceded her in death.
Vera G. Leedom dies at hospital
Vera Geniva Leedom, 68, Augusta, died Sunday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Augusta. Rev. Robert Brooks will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
She was born Jan. 8, 1917 in Sedgwick to Claude Merriam and Myrtle Ann Graham Dovel.
She married Henry Corwin Leedom Sr. Oct. 5, 1932 in Newkirk, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1984.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Order of'Eastem Star.
Other survivors include sons, Donald of West Point, Utah, Henry Corwin Jr., of Augusta, Melvin of Greeley, Colo.; daughter, Barbara Smith of Littleton, Colo.; sisters, Mrs. G.A. Stockham of Arizona, Mrs. Julian Hart of Andrews, Texas; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A sister and a grandson preceded her in death.
Francis W. Sowers dies in El Dorado
Francis W. Sowers, 67, Leon, died Saturday at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.
His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Leon Christian Church. Rev. Vernon Frantz and Rev. Tony Venturella will officiate and burial will be in the Leon cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Leon Christian Church.
He was born May 7, 1917 in Leon to Arch G. and Grace Snodgrass Sowers.
He married Ruby Cousins Dec. 31, 1938 in El Dorado. She preceded him in death Dec. 9, 1981.
In May 29, 1982, he married Maxine Honeyman. She survives.
He was a retired Mobil Oil Co. employee.
He was a member of the Leon Christian Church, Leon Senior Citizens and the El Dorado Golden Age Club.
Other survivors include sons, Francis W. Jr. of Leon, Ray Dean of Wilton, Iowa; daughter, Peggy Sowers of Keller, Texas; stepdaughter, Mooneen Gregoire of El Dorado; stepson, Max Honeyman of El Dorado; brothers, Cliff of Tecumseh, Archie Jr. of Canton, Miss., Bruce of Klamath Falls, Ore., Phillip of Wichita; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Velma Charlotte Reeves, 72, Augusta, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta instead of the 2 p.m. time announced yesterday.
She died Sunday at Walnut Valley Manor.

Wendall H. Welty, 80, Wichita, brother of Bessie Pippin of Augusta, died Saturday at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Walnut (Kan.) Methodist Church. Rev. Laurence Greenwood will officiate and burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery at Walnut.
A memorial has been established with the Calvary United Methodist Church in Wichita.
He was born Jan. 1, 1905 in Walnut to Frank and Bessie Gibson Watty.
He married Mary Alice Cook. She survives.
He was a retired baker at the Broadwiew Hotel in Wichita.
Survivors also include sons, Frank of Boron, Calif., Douglas of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sisters Edith Welty of Walnut, Frances Jameson of Girard, and three grandchildren.

Kelly Wayne Shumway, 20, Lomar, Calif., son of Gay L. Shumway of Augusta, died Sunday in Las Vegas, Nev.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Dec. 2, 1964 in Mesa, Ariz., to Charles Dan and Gay L. Behunin Shumway.
He served with the U.S. Navy for 2 1/2 years.
Besides his mother, he leaves his father, Charles D. Shumway of Glendale, Ariz.; a brother, John Andrew Shumway of Augusta; grandparents, Richard and Betty Fry of Augusta, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shumway of Mesa, and his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Behunin of Augusta.
