By MARY L. HODSON Area Editor
A 19-year-old Augustan remains in good condition at a Wichita hospital following a one-vehicle accident early Sunday that claimed the lives of two other Butler County residents.
Craig Dicus was taken to St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita after being treated at the Augusta Medical Complex for injuries he suffered in the accident.
Brent Crowley, 18, rural Leon, and Tim Morris, 24, Augusta, died when the 1982 Chevrolet they were in missed a curve, sailed through tree tops and landed in a field about 3 a.m. Sunday, according to a sheriff’s office report.
Crowley and Morris were among five people killed in weekend traffic accidents across the state.
Captain Larry Cody of the county sheriff’s office reports Crowley and Morris were dead at the scene. Both were reportedly thrown out of the vehicle.
The fatal accident occurred a mile east of Augusta, just south of U.S. 54 on the Stafford Road at 3:05 a.m., Cody says.
Cody said Dicus was out of the car when officers arrived but it was not known whether he had been thrown out of the car. The accident was reported about 3:10 a.m.
Cody said this morning there had been no determination on who was driving the vehicle, but it was registered to Mitchell or Mary Crowley of Oklahoma.
