Bernice Spivey dies at hospital
Bernice Spivey, 56, rural Leon, died Sunday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
The wake service will be at 7 o’clock tonight at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church. Father David Cushing will officiate and burial will be in the Leon Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with St. James Catholic Church.
She was born Nov. 11, 1928 in rural Udall to Cecil A. and Emma Pearl Ashworth Busch.
She married Kenneth Spivey Aug. 12, 1950 in El Dorado. He survives.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Linda “Susie” Dutton of Leon; brothers, John Busch and Lawrence Busch, both of Augusta; sisters, Emma Noland of Longton, Ruth Manning and Lois Hagabusch, both of Augusta, and a granddaughter, Tierra Dutton of Leon.
Brother dies in Cedar Vale
Robert A. Bolton, 73, Cedar Vale, brother of Aaron “Bill” Bolton of Leon, died Monday at a hospital there.
His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Cedar Vale Baptist Church. Rev. Curtis Gunther will officiate and burial will be in the Cedar Vale Cemetery.
He was born Dec. 13, 1911 in Wauneta to Frank and Lydia Tyner Bolton.
He married Lois Tracey Aug. 11, 1960 in Arkansas City. She survives.
He was a retired rancher, member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the First Baptist Church.
Other survivors include a son, Curtis of Winfield; a daughter, Robin Bolton of Manhattan; brothers, John of Wichita, Joe of Pine Grove, Calif., P.F., of Suisun City, Calif.; a sister, Mable Rogers of Moline.

Clyde McKinney dies at 82
Clyde N. McKinney Sr., 82, Leon, father of Clyde McKinney Jr. of Augusta, died Saturday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. today at the Oak Hill Cemetery at Chautauqua. Rev. Dois Nix officiated.
He was born Nov. 22, 1902 in Seymour, Texas to J.E. and Mollie McKinney.
He was a retired farmer, bait shop owner and a trapper.
Other survivors include daughters, Eunice Copp of St. Louis, Mo., Betty Furry of Goddard; brothers, J.E., Eldon, and sisters, Vera Bell, Bernice Blankenship, all of Seymour; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Graves-Baird Funeral Home in Sedan was in charge of arrangements.
Jessie Harlow dies at 66
Jessie P. Harlow, 66, Arkansas City, mother of Kathleen Rucker of Douglass, died Monday at her home.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Rindt-Erdman-Oldroyd Funeral Home in Arkansas City. Chaplain Don Scott and Rev. Jack Gallagher will officiate and burial in the Riverview Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the First Southern Baptist Church in Arkansas City.
She was born Oct. 26, 1918 in Mooreland, Okla., to Rev. James G. and Nellie Ann Murray Boyle.
She married Thomas W. Harlow Dec. 25, 1941 in Arkansas City. He survives.
Survivors also include a daughter, Carolyn Viers of Fredonia; mother and stepfather, Nellie and Lonnie Andrew of Arkansas City; a sister, Oletha McCoy of San Gabriel, Calif., and four grandchildren.
Ex-area man died March 8
Clinton Norton, 50, Overland Park, died March 8.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Amos Funeral Home Chapel in Shawnee. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Shawnee.
Norton was born May 23, 1934 to Lee F. and Frances R. Norton McKnight, both of Leon. He is the stepson of Edith Norton, presently living in Leon.
Norton attended grade school at Rose Hill and graduated in 1952 from Augusta High School.
He was a member of the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. He was central recovery agent for the Kansas City Business College.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine of the home, a son Allen of California, two daughters Lisa of the home and Dana Ferguson of Overland Park, one brother, Max of Overland Park and two sisters, Xyla Johnson of Liberal and Xita Lucas of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Hattie F. Ragsdale, 75, Wichita, sister of Carl Pierce of Augusta, died Sunday at her home.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita. Rev. Dale Ellenberger will officiate and burial will be in the Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
She was born Nov. 27, 1909 in Atlanta to Charles Edward and Ory Dassett Pierce.
She was a retired waitress.
Other survivors include a son, Bob North of Hays; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
