Gene Turner dies at 68
Gene G. Turner, 68, Ponca City, Okla., father of Norman Turner of Augusta, died this morning at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grace Mortuary in Ponca City.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
He was born Aug. 20, 1916 in Wichita to Lon and Acha Turner.
He married Virginia Snavely Sept. 29, 1946. She survives.
He was owner of Turner Radiator Shop in Ponca City before he retired in 1983.
Turner farmed many years in the Rose Hill area before moving to Ponca City in 1965.
Other survivors include a son, Frank of Arkansas City, David of Ponca City; a daughter, Barbara Quigley of Wichita; four brothers; three sisters; 14 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

C.E. Strode dies at 83
C.E. “Ed” Strode, 1919 Ohio Street, died today at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Brooks of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Cresco Cemetery at Severy.
He was born March 20, 1902 in Rose Hill to Harry Eugene and Myrtle Cramblet Strode.
He married Mildred Ruth Copeland Aug. 3, 1939 in Severy. She survives.
Strode worked in the car department for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He lived in Osawatomie before returning to Butler County in 1969.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Mystic Tie Lodge.
Other survivors include a brother, Maurice of Gravois Mills, Mo., and sisters, Velma Haigh of Wichita, Geneva Messick of Fort Collins, Colo., and Alma Shane of Wichita.
A brother, Orville, and a sister, Edith Hillis, preceded him in death.

Roy Williams died June 6
Rudolph Roy Williams, 78, Chautauqua, a brother of Francis Williams of Augusta, died Thursday, June 6.
His funeral service will be 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Chautauqua.
In addition to his brother here, this retired tree trimmer leaves his wife, Frances; three sons Durley of Peru, Kan., Earl of Moscow, Kan., and S.G. “Buddy” of Sedan; three daughters, Marcella Williams of Chautauqua, Garnet Sand-burn of Independence, and Elnora Grayum of Caney; another brother, two sisters, 25 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
Memorials to the Brooke Nicole Culver Fund are suggested. The Graves-Bair Funeral Home of Sedan is in charge of arrangements.

Bob Stanfield dies at 55
Robert V. “Bob” Stanfield, 55, El Dorado, sales manager at Dick Hatfield Chevrolet of Augusta, died last night at his home.
Funeral arrangements are pending at a Halstead funeral home. The family was scheduled to make those arrangements this afternoon.

Bob Stanfield rites Wednesday
Robert V. “Bob” Stanfield, 55, of El Dorado, a veteran salesman for Wichita-area car dealerships, died Sunday.
His funeral service will begin at 10:30 tomorrow in the Faith Bible Baptist Church at Valley Center. Rev. Albert Schuessler will officiate and burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Sedgwick.
Stanfield was working as sales manager for Dick Hatfield Chevrolet of Augusta at the time of his death. He joined the Hatfield dealership in 1977.
“He probably sold more automobiles than anyone in the Wichita area,” said Hatfield. Stanfield began selling cars when he was 18 years old for Don Hattan Chevrolet in Valley Center. He later worked for Yingling Chevrolet and Thorobred Chevrolet of Wichita.
“Bob earned many, many awards from Chevrolet for his sales work and was a member of the society of sales executives,” Hatfield said.
Stanfield was born Sept. 6, 1929 in Wichita to James and Bessie E. Draper Stanfield.
On March 14, 1951, he married the former Doris J. Black in a ceremony at Valley Center. She survives.
Stanfield was a veteran of the Korean War and had made his home in El Dorado for the past nine years.
In addition to his wife, Stanfield leaves two sons, Steven and Kevin, both of El Dorado; two daughters, Pamela Hosier of Reese and Denise Bods of Leon; a brother, James Stanfield Jr. of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; a sister, Edna Mae Thomason of Lawrence, and five grandchildren.
Memorials to the Butler County Heart Association have been suggested.
The Kaufman Funeral Home at Halstead is in charge of arrangements.
