Russell Cour dies at 78
Russell F. Cour, 78, of El Dorado, brother of Marguerite Marshall of Augusta, died Monday.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home in El Dorado. Cremation will precede the service.
Cour was born Sept. 29, 1906 in Prospect Township to Henry E. and Mae Florea Cour. He married the former Eva Guinty in 1932. She survives.
Cour worked in the El Dorado office of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service before taking a job with the state office in Manhattan.
In addition to his wife and sister, Cour leaves two sons, Thomas of Austin, Texas, and Jerry of Golden, Colo.; a daughter, Carole Widick of St. Cloud, Minn., and seven grandchildren.
Memorials to the American Heart Association of Kansas have been suggested.
August Heitman funeral today
August E. Heitman, 90, of Leon, a cattleman and retired Beech Aircraft Corp. employee, died Sunday.
His funeral was this afternoon at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Rev. Leonard Evans of the Trinity Episcopal Church officiated and burial was in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
He was born Sept. 7, 1894 at St. Louis, Mo., to Joseph and Marie Barby Heitman.
Heitman served with the U.S. Army during World War I and was a past master of the Patmos Lodge, AF & AM, in El Dorado.
Survivors include two daughters, Merle M. Harrison of Silver Spring, Md., and Sarah A. Crumley of Colorado Springs, Colo., and five grandchildren.
The Carlson Funeral Home of El Dorado was in charge of arrangements.
William Peters
William J. Peters, 88, of Halstead, died Saturday. This retired employee of Boeing Aircraft was a former resident of the Douglass area.
His funeral service will be 10 a.m. tomorrow at the El Paso Cemetery in Derby.
Peters is survived by his wife, Nina, three sons, two daughters, a half-sister, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The Smith Mortuary at Derby is in charge of arrangements.

W.T. Thomas dies in Winfield
William Thomas “Tom” Jordan, 80, of Douglass, died yesterday at the Good Samaritan Rest Home in Winfield.
His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Douglass. Burial will be at the Belle Plaine cemetery.
Jordan was born Dec. 19, 1904 in Indian Territory, Okla. He was a retired truck driver for Johnson Oil Co., and field foreman for Western Alfalfa.
He is survived by his wife, Alpha of Douglass; sons Ralph of Topeka, Lloyd of Wichita; daughter, Muriel Nixon of Douglass; brother, Carl of Farmington, N.M.; sisters, Josephine Madole of Pryor, Okla., and Nanny Underwood of Belle Plaine; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.
Arrangements are being made through Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home of Douglass.
Thursday, June 13, 1985 Pearl Hurley dies at 82
Pearl Hurley, 82, Wichita, sister of Ruby Graver and Virginia Cody of Augusta, died Wednesday at the Northeast Health Care Center in Wichita.
Her funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Wichita, Rev. Don Eskew will officiate and burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
She was born Jan. 28, 1903 in Leslie, Ark.
This homemaker was a member of the Mount Olive Christian Church in Wichita.
Other survivors include a daughter, Helen Nagel of Wichita; brothers Walter M. Binder of Donna, Texas, and Paul L. Binder of Greensburg; two more sisters, Ruth Church of Newton and Dorothy McCoy of Wichita; a grandson, Joel Andrew Nagel of Munich, Germany, and a granddaughter, Kimberly Pearl Brewster of Wichita, and four great-granchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew.
Memorials to the American Heart Association have been suggested.
Sister-in-law died Wednesday
Mrs. Mary Hixon, 57, Iola, died Wednesday at an Iola hospital.
She was the wife of Wayne Hixon, brother of Augustan Derrel Hixon. Mrs. Hixon also leaves a son, three daughters and grandchildren.
The Augustans will attend Mrs. Hixon’s funeral tomorrow in Iola.
