Rites Tuesday for Jack Thomas
Jack Orville Thomas, 58, Route 3, died Friday at his home.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Kent Proctor of the Andover Assembly of God Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Lawn Cemetery in El Dorado.
He was born Oct. 1, 1926 in El Dorado to Villa A. and Bessie L. Baylass Thomas.
He married Mildred Edith Andrus Dec. 19, 1947 in El Dorado. She survives.
He served in the military during World War II and was a member of the El Dorado VFW.
He was a retired drilling contractor.
Other survivors include sons, Jack of Augusta, Jim of El Dorado, John of Woodward, Okla., and Jay of Towanda; daughters, Helen Knowles of Augusta, Barbara Ann Olson of Arapaho, Okla., and Theodoris Bohon of Latham; mother, Bessie Thomas of Burns; brothers, Tom, Joe, both of Cassoday, Jim of Potwin, Ted of El Dorado, Jerry of Matfield Green; a sister, Nellie May Wehry of Bums, and 13 grandchildren.

R.D. McGavran dies at 57
Robert Dean McGavran, 57, Leon, died Friday at a hospital in Pueblo, Colo.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Keith Mace will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the United Methodist Church in Leon.
He was born Dec. 4, 1927 in Minneapolis to Loris and Marie Shoemaker McGavran.
He married Helen Lowe Nov. 22, 1945 in Wichita. She survives.
He was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the Joppa Lodge 223.
Other survivors include a son, Andy McGavran of Granada, Calif.; daughters, Susan Cross of Lumberton, Texas and Cindy Kukuk of Creede, Colo.; mother Marie McGavran of Leon; a brother, Dick McGavran of Leon; sister, Carole Risley of Portland, Ore., and seven grandchildren.
Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado is in charge of arrangements.

Frank McMurphy funeral Friday
Frank E. McMurphy, 80, Rose Hill, a retired band saw operator at Beech Aircraft, died Tuesday at the St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral will be 2 o’clock Friday afternoon at the Rose Hill United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Johnson will official and burial will be in the Rose Hill cemetery.
He was born Sept. 29, 1904 in Jasper County, Mo., to Willie and Anna North McMurphy.
McMurphy leaves his wife, Alpha, of the home; two sons, Frank Jr. of Rose Hill and Theodore of Augusta; three daughters, Theolene Bond of Rose Hill, Mary Hermann of Denver, Colo., and Helen McMurphy of the home; two brothers, John McMurphy of Rialto, Calif., and Willie McMurphy of El Camino, Calif,; a sister, Mabel Kellerman of Omaha, Neb.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The Smith Mortuary at Derby is in charge of arrangements.

Noted educator dies in Emporia
Vera Mae Clark, 80, Emporia, a former Augustan and a member of the Teachers Hall of Fame, died Thursday in Emporia.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Newton.
Memorials have been established with the Christ
Lutheran Church in Augusta and the First Methodist Church in Emporia.
She was born to I.G. and Mabel S. Clark in Walton Sept.
9, 1906. The family moved to Augusta in 1919. She graduated from high school here in 1925.
She taught at Gordon, Andover and Augusta before moving to Emporia in the 1940s.
She earned a masters degree in 1952.
She was a principal at the Kansas Avenue School in Emporia before her retirement in 1973.
She was active in the Methodist Church and Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include brothers,
Paul Clark of Greybull, Wyo., and John kClark of Augusta.
Four sisters preceded her in death.

Vreeland March dies at 91
Vreeland L. March, 91, Wichita, uncle of Mary Bates, Louis and Brinten V. March, all of Douglass, died Wednesday at a nursing home in Wichita.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Wichita Park Cemetery. Rev. Cloy Miene will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the Marin Lutheran Church in Corte Madera, Calif.
He was born Feb. 18, 1894 in Iowa to Isaac and Anna Vreeland March
He was a retired civil service employee.
Quiring-Old Mission Mortuary in Wichita is in charge of arrangements.
