Father dies in Marion
Mike Franta, 91, Marion, father of Rose Bolinger of Augusta, died Monday at the Marion Manor nursing home.
The rosary will be at 8 o’clock tonight at the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen. Monsignor Arthur Tonne will officiate. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the church.
He was born May 18, 1894 in Lincolville to John and Cecelia VonAfka Franta.
He married Mary Dvorak. She survives.
He was a retired farmer, handyman and an employee of the Lincolnville, Kan. Hardware Store.
Other survivors include sons, Les of Wichita, Roy J., and Leonard J. of Baltimore, Md.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The Thompson—Harp Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of arrangements.
Doris Stanley dies at 77
Doris L. Stanley, 77, Douglass, died Sunday at the Douglass Nursing Center.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Douglass First Christian Church. Rev. Jim Lorensen will officiate and burial in the Douglass Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.
She was born Oct. 11, 1907 in Garland to Noah and Laura Coatney Frease.
She married Claude Stanley Aug. 1, 1926 in Fort Scott. He preceded her in death Aug. 30, 1983.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include a son, Gene of Wichita; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Hilyard-Smith Mortuary in Douglass is in charge of arrangements.

Mother once lived here
Marian Spoonhour Banks, 70, Wichita, a former Augusta resident and retired licensed practical nurse, died Wednesday at the St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Downing-Lahey Mortuary in Wichita and burial will be in the Old Mission Cemetery.
She was a member of the Augusta Eastern Star organization and a member of the First Christian Church at Miami, Okla.
Survivors include her husband, Chester Banks of the home; a daughter, Dixie Carr and a son, Dr. Dan Spoonhour, both of Wichita, a brother, Vernon Sanford of Quapaw, Okla., two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Myrtle Totten rites Friday
Myrtle Totten, 93, Augusta, 1515 Club House Drive, died Wednesday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery in Herington. Rev. Ron Johnson will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.
She was born Oct. 17 1891 in North Platte, Neb., to Mr. and Mrs. William Day.
She married Charles Totton. He preceded her in death March 13, 1978.
Survivors include a niece, Frances Churchman of Augusta.
The Puryear-Brockmeier Mortuary in Herington is in charge of arrangements.

Former resident dies in California
Margaret Thomas, 72, ElCajon, Calif., formerly of Augusta, died at a hospital there this morning.
There will be a cremation.
She was born Jan. 6, 1913 in Ashland to George and Ruby Sizks.
She graduated from Augusta High School in 1931.
She married Albert Thomas. He preceded her in death in 1972.
Mrs. Thomas worked at the Socony refinery during World War II and at the Hall Book Store before moving to Califinornia in 1960.
She was a retired social worker in San Diego County, Calif.
Survivors include her children, Sylvia Davis and David Thomas, both of El Cajon, Claif. She was the sister-in-law of Don and Ruth Phillips of Augusta.
Charles Franklin service Monday
Charles Alvin Franklin, 91, Latham, died today at Knutson Manor nursing home in El Dorado.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta. Rev. Burl Allison Jr. will officiate and burial will be in the Towanda Cemetery.
He was born May 18, 1894 in Princeton, Mo., to Chessly and Louisa Craig Franklin.
He married Oda Stacey July 4, 1914 in Princeton. She preceded him in death. He married Mildred Lucy Wait Sept. 8, 1960 in Newkirk, Okla. She preceded him in death.
He was a farmer. He also worked at the Alley Lumber Co. in Augusta. He was a member of the Christian Church, the American Legion and Latham Lions Club. He served in the military during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Esther Ann Neill of Quincey, Ill.; siters, Cora Elsey, Lora MacElfish, both of Lineville, Iowa, Ann Maille, Phoenix, Ariz., and Mae Plambeck of Golden, Colo; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
