Services held for a sister of an Augustan
One funeral service for Viola May Reavis, 63, Manhattan, was held yesterday afternoon in Wichita and the second was scheduled for today in Manhattan. She died Friday, Aug. 9, at Valley Center.
Ms. Reavis was a sister of Forest Reavis from Augusta.
Today’s service was at the Cowan-Edwards-Yorgensen Funeral Home in Manhattan and burial was in the Westmoreland, Kan., cemetery.
Yesterday’s service was at the Downing & Lahey Mortuary in Wichita.
She was born July 21, 1922 to Harvey and Adah Hunter Reavis. Her mother, now living in Manhattan, also survives.
Ms. Reavis was a minister and missionary who was being cared for at the Glenn Olsen home in Valley Center prior to her death.
In addition to her mother and the brother here, Reavis leaves a sister, Fausta Kaiser of Albany, Ore., and two brothers, Edwin Reavis of Manhattan and Wayne Reavis of Jacksonville, Ore.
Ms. Reavis was incorrectly identified as the mother of Forest Reavis in Monday’s Gazette.

Tom Lingafelter dies in Illinois
Tom Lingafelter 77, Fairfield, Ill., formerly of Gordon, died July 16.
His funeral was July 18 in the Johnson Chapel in Fairfield. Burial was in the Floral Garden of Memory at Flora, Ill.
He was a mechanic at Mid-Kansas Oil and Gas Co. in Gordon.
In 1932 he married Madeline Tharp . She died in 1981.
He married Virginia Palmer of Fairfield. She survives.
Another survivors includes a son, Jerry of Wichita Falls, Texas.

Ruth Paton dies at 91
Ruth Paton, 91, Douglass, died Tuesday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Twin Grove Cemetery in Severy. Rev. Paul Lynn will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the Douglass Public Library and the Kansas Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, in Wichita.
She was born Aug. 26, 1893 in Severy to John and Lorena McEwen Hayes.
She married James Paton Nov. 24, 1920. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Daggett of Arcadia, Calif.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and nieces, Thora Foyer and Olena Hilyard, both of Douglass.
Elizabeth Lipps died Tuesday
Elizabeth P. Lipps, 68, Sedgdwick, mother of Beverly Gilbert of Augusta, died Tuesday at the Halstead Hospital in Halstead.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Broadway Mortuary in Wichita. Rev. Bobby Massey will officiate.
She was born Feb. 6, 1917 in Muskogee, Okla., to Calvin John and Hattie Mae Carter Prine.
She married Elwood Lipps. He preceded her in death in 1969.
Other survivors include sons, Billie, Nick, Keith, all of Wichita, David of Sedgwick; daughters, Beatrice Collins, Janice Romero, both of Wichita, Barbara McNeely, Roberta Larson, Lesa, all of Sedgwick; brother, Calvin J. Prine of Lebanon, Ore.; sisters, DeLois Meredith, Pearl Cunningham, both of Chanute, Jane Geffert of Humboldt, Willa Lore of Moran; 45 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Bonnie Erickson dies in Wichita
Bonnie Beth Erickson, 52, Route 3, died Wednesday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wesleyan Church in Augusta. Rev. Max Munson will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Viewing will be only at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta before the service.
She was born Dec. 12, 1932 in Bosie, Idaho, to William E. and Bessie I. LeGrande Guffin.
She married Charles E. Erickson March 14, 1953 in Wichita. He preceded her in death in 1983.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include sons, Larry, Scott and Todd, all of Augusta; brothers, David Guffin of Webster, S.D., Bill Guffin, Huron, S.D., and Walter Guffin, Watertown, S.D., and sisters, Virginia Zell of Cedartown, Ga., Nellie Rathkey of Emporia, Sandra Beskow and Charisse Soto, all of Wichita.
Wilma L. Burress service Friday
Wilma Lee Burress, 71, 2330 Moyle, died today at the Walnut Valley Manor nursing home.
A graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Burl Allison Jr. at 11 o’clock tomorrow morning at the Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born June 1, 1914 in Hardin, Mo., to Clayton B. and Bertha Morgan Gravley.
She married F. Allan Burress May 1, 1940 in a ceremony at Sedgwick. Mrs. Burress worked as a registered nurse.
Survivors include a sister, Earline Burns of Augusta and a daughter, Anna Lee Burress of Topeka.
Memorials to Alzheimer’s disease have been suggested.
