Schaal dies in Chanute
Marie L. Schaal, 88, Thayer, died Tuesday morning at the Neosho Memorial Hospital in Chanute. She was the grandmother of Kent Schaal, Augusta.
Services were held Thursday afternoon in Chanute.
She was born Aug. 26, 1896, in Moline to Edwin and Grace Stitt. She married Jeff Robert Schaal Oct. 4, 1915. He preceded her in death Dec. 31, 1979.
Other survivors are a son J.D. Schaal of Chanute, a daughter Geraldine Stanfield of Thayer, a brother E.J. Stitt of Thayer and three grandchildren, including Kent, and two great-grandchildren.
‘Betty’ Spitznogle died at Topeka
Elizabeth “Betty” Spitznogle, 64, Eskridge, a former Augusta resident, died Friday, Aug. 9, at a Topeka hospital.
Her funeral service was conducted Monday, Aug. 12, at the Eskridge Presbyterian Church and burial was in the city cemetery.
She was born Nov. 14, 1920 in Kenbro to Allen and Emma Constance Mitchell Mayes.
On Oct. 5, 1939, she married Raymond F. Spitznogle. He survives.
Prior to moving to Lake Wabaunsee in 1976, the Spitznogles made their home in Augusta and she worked 30 years for Beech Aircraft in Wichita. He worked at the former Mobil Oil refinery here.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Spitznogle leaves a son Frank Raymond Spitznogle of Salem, N.H.; a brother, Cleland Mayes; and seven sisters, Emma Jane Harrison, Nellie O’Dell, Mildred Thorpe, Marjory Jones, Katherine Casteel, Ruth Higgins, and Dorothy Booth.
The Callahan Funeral Home at Eskridge was in charge of arrangements.

Raymond Edward Mark, Mesquite, Texas, brother of James Stuart Mark of Augusta, died Aug. 13.
Graveside services will be Saturday in Mesquite, Texas.
Another survivor includes a sister, Dorothy Rockenbach of El Dorado.
There were no other details available at press time today.

Rites are pending at the Dunsford Funeral Home for G.G. Boucher, 86, of rural Augusta.
He died this morning at Knutson Manor nursing home in El Dorado.
Survivors include a son, Roily Boucher of Augusta.

Father dies at Valley Center
Joel D. Eck, 78, Valley Center, father of Doris Swartz of Augusta, died Saturday at his home.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. today at the Hesston Mennonite Church. Rev Paul Friesen and Rev. Dan Johnston will officiate and burial in the Emmanuel Cemetery, north of Moundridge.
He was born Feb. 7, 1907 in Goltry , Okla.
He married Viola Becker Sept. 18, 1928 in Greensburg. She survives.
He was a retired farmer and contractor.
Other survivors include a son, Wayne of Valley Center; daughters, Norma Koehn of Moundridge, JoAnn Isaac of Brighton, Colo., Gloria Struble of Dallas, Texas; brother, Herman of Newton; sisters, Tillie Decker of Newton, Adena Kasper of Peabody, Martha Eck of Avery, Calif. Mary Eck of Kansas City, Mo.; 20 grand-children and 30 great-grandchildren.
Miller Funeral Home in Hesston was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral today for G.G. Boucher
Geoffrey G. Boucher, 86, Augusta, died Friday at Knutson Manor nursing home in El Dorado.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. today at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Burl Allison Jr. officiated and burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Memorials to the Senior Citizen Center Building Fund at the Prairie State Bank have been suggested.
He was born Dec. 15, 1898 in rural Augusta to Bert and Cassie Taylor Boucher.
He married Ruby E. Boone Oct. 1, 1921 in Wichita. She survives.
He was a retired farmer.
He was a member of the Cumberland Community Church.
Survivors include sons Roily of Augusta, Milford of Latham; daughters, Aileen Leben, Barbara Elliott, both of Wichita; sister, Mrs. Chester Powers of Midland, Texas; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Thelma Seal dies at 75
Thelma Verne Seal, 75, Stillwell, Okla., sister-in-law of Homer Seal of Douglass, died July 31.
Her funeral was Aug. 2 at the Roberts Funeral Home in Stillwell. Burial was in the Stillwell cemetery.
Other survivors include her husband, Loren; a daughter, Sondra Morton of Stillwell; a son, Robert B. Seal of Wichita; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Schaal dies in Chanute
