Cdr. M.P. Vayo dead at 59
Myles Paul Vayo, 59, a retired Navy commander who was a naval attache to Kenitra, Morocco, died Sept. 15 of a heart attack.
He was the son-in-law of Dorothy Mannion Murphy, a former Augusta resident. She was the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. J.J. Mannion of 134 Main.
Mass of Christian Burial was Oct. 4 at the Naval Chapel in Newport, R.I. He was cremated.
He was born in Lowell, Mass., and graduated from Yale University in New Haven, Conn. He earned a masters degree in international relations from George Washington University.
He joined the Navy in 1943 and retired in 1970.
His navy decorations include the Bronze Star, the American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal.
Survivors include his wife, Joan of Arlington, Va.; a son, Paul of San Diego, Calif.,; daughters, Christine of Arlington and Ann of Springfield, Va.; sisters, Elaine Kinney of North Chelmsford, Mass., Rita Stansfield of Andover, Mass.; brothers, Gerald and Paul of Chelmsford, and Donald of Cleveland, Ohio.

Frank Dutcher Jr. dies in Wichita
Frank Dutcher Jr., 63, Wichita, father of Lyle Dutcher of Augusta, died Tuesday at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
A graveside service was at 10 a.m. today at the Greenwood Cemetery in Oatville. Pastor David Crockett officiated.
He was born March 9, 1922 in Fairbault, Minn., to Frank Leslie and Augusta Dewitz Dutcher Sr.
He was a painter.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Other survivors include a son, Steve of Enumclaw, Wash.; brother, Edward, sister, Dolly Buendorf, both of Fairbault.
Culbertson-Smith Mortuary in Wichita was in charge of arrangements.
Sally Corbin dies at 66
Sarah “Sally” Hyde Corbin, 66, Wichita, mother of Harry F. “Kim” Corbin III of rural Augusta, died Monday.
Her funeral will be at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Quiring-Old Mission Mortuary in Wichita.
A memorial has been established with Wichita State University Library Associates.
She was born May 8, 1919 in Wichita. She was the granddaughter of Albert Alexander Hyde, inventor and founder of the Mentholatum Co.
Her husband, Harry F. Corbin, was former president of Wichita University. He survives. ...
She was an avid bridge player.
Survivors include other sons, Alex Hyde Corbin and Jeffrey T. Corbin, all of Wichita and four grandchildren.

Brother dies at Solomon
Roy M. Ellis, 74, Solomon, brother of Ardis White of Augusta, died Saturday at a Salina hospital.
Graveside service was a 2 p.m. today at the Greenville Cemetery in Niles. Rev. Cecil Harris officiated.
He was born Nov. 5, 1910 in Barber County to Earnest and Elnora Daniels Ellis.
He married Lorene Williams April 4, 1931 in Alva, Okla. She survives.
Ellis was a retired lumberman.
Other survivors includes a son, David of rural Solomon; daughters, Frances Corbin of Midwest City, Okla., Delores Cole of Wichita; sisters, Dorothy Broady of Houston, Texas, Helen Gerkin of Belton, Texas, Ethel Nossaman of Isabel and Gertrude Hill of Wichita; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Elsie Powell dies at hospital
Myrtle Elsie Powell, 98, Augusta, died Saturday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 1, 1887 in Tonganoxie to Lewis Marion and Sarah Tingle Adkins.
She married Robert Powell April 16, 1911 in Enid. He preceded her in death in 1927.
Powell was a retired secretary for the City of Enid, Okla., where she lived most of her life. She moved here 3 1/2 years ago.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Enid.
Survivors include daughters, Roberta Gilson of Leon, Wanda Carlon of Augusta; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A half-brother, Harry Adkins, preceded her in death.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.
William Bright service today
William L. Bright, 77, Chanute, stepfather of Carolyn Wells and Peggy Moore, both of Douglass, died Thursday at a hospital in Tulsa, Okla.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. today at the Gibson-Koch Funeral Home. Rev. Edgar Rains officiated and burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Chanute.
He was born Dec. 28, 1907 in Portland, Ind., to Charles E. and Lula May Money.
He married Ethel E. Gurlwell Oct. 27, 1950. She preceded him in death in 1964.
Bright was a retired Byers Rock Crusher employee.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Other survivors include a son, Richard of Claremore, Okla.; daughter, Jean Billbe of Renton, Wash.;another stepdaughter, Mary Metzger of Rogers, Ark.; brothers, Chuck, Otto, Bob, all of Chanute; 31 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
