Brandon Downing funeral Friday
Brandon Ryan Downing, 3-year-old son of Douglas E. and Janice Downing, 122 High, died Monday when he reportedly darted into a street to retrieve a ball and was struck by a pickup truck.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Doyle Mendenhall of Prairie Hills Southern Baptist Church will officiate. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa.
He was born April 14, 1982 in Millington, Tenn.
Survivors include his parents, two sisters, Megan and Amy, all of the home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hauser of Augusta, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Downing, and great-grandparents, Marie Downing, Nadine Piatt, all of Chetopa.

Mother dies in Oklahoma
Irene Z. Stumblingbear, 65, Mountain View, Okla., mother of Eugene Stumblingbear of Augusta, died Oct. 26.
Her funeral was Tuesday.
Other survivors include sons, Elton of Mountain View, Andy of Anadarko, Okla., Mark of Wichita; daughters, Francetta Segovia, Sandra Mendia, both of Wichita, Polina Stumblingbear, Emma Stumblingbear, both of Mountain View; 27 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial service for J.E. Silva
A memorial service for J.E.
“Jack” Silva was Sunday at the First Christian Church in Freemont, Calif.
He married Ruth Jester, a former Augustan, who
graduated from Augusta High Ruth and Jack visited School in 1928. She worked at Augusta several times and still the Spencer-Loadcraft Co. for several years, attended the Methodist Church and was active in other civic affairs.
Ruth and Jack visited Augusta several times and still have a few friends here.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Silva, 237st Henry Drive, Freemont, Calif., 94539.

Arvy Bannon dies at 77
Arvy Bannon, 77, Douglass, died Sunday at the Douglass Nursing Center.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass. Rev. Jim Lorensen will officiate and burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
He was born June 26, 1908 in Douglass to Claude and Nina Lackey Bannon.
He married Elanor Butler July 21, 1930 in El Dorado. She survives.
He was a retired farmer and a Butler County Highway Department employee.
Other survivors include son, Gary of Overland Park; daughters, Joanne Marsh of Tulsa, Okla.; Carolyn Reheis of Bartlesville, Okla.; brother, Adrian of Douglass; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ben Dwyer dies at 42
Ben Dwyer, 42, Derby, brother of Darlinne Vermilyea of Douglass, died Monday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita. Rick Cline will officiate.
He was born July 25, 1943 in Wellington to Clarence Benny and I. Ruth Fletcher Dwyer.
He married Shirley Mann July 16, 1966. She survives.
He was president of Commercial Aircraft Products Inc. in Derby. He was a Mason.
Other survivors include a son, Shaun Michael, and daughter, Michelle Ann, both of the home; his mother, Ruth Dwyer of Wichita, and another sister, Linda Bandy of Wichita.
Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond Gillett dies in Augusta
Raymond A. Gillett, 78, Wichita, father of James Gillett of Augusta, died Monday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Benton, Kan., Christian Church. Rev. Floyd Hansen and Rev. Calvin Habig will officiate and burial will be in the Benton Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 28, 1907 in Altoona to Wilbur H. and Eva Rettman Gillett.
He was a retired Beech Aircraft Corp. inspector.
Other survivors include a son, Gary of Wichita; sisters, Winifred McBride, Mary Little, both of Tulsa, Okla., and five grandchildren.
Quiring-Old Mission Mortuary in Wichita is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Guest dies at 60
Robert Lee Guest, 60, El Paso, Texas, formerly of Augusta, died there yesterday.
His funeral will be tomorrow at the Orr-McDaniel Funeral Home in El Paso. No service time was available.
He was born Nov. 16, 1924 in Augusta to Owen and Thelma Paxson Guest.
He was a State Farm Insurance agent.
Survivors include his wife, Arthelle; daughters, Susan Puffer of Houston, Texas, Mary Ann Casner of El Paso; a sister, Margaret Hartup of Wichita, and four grandchildren.
