John McDaniel dies at 78
John B. McDaniel Sr., 78, Salina, father of John B. “Jay” McDaniel Jr., of Augusta, died Wednesday.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ryan Mortuary in Salina. Burial will be in the Abilene, Kan. cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
He was born April 5, 1907 in Urick, Mo.
He married Mildred Elizabeth Turner April 4, 1931. She survives.
He was a Kansas Department of Transportion employee before his retirement.
Survivors include another son, Robert E. of Industry, Texas; brothers, Loren of Pasedena, Texas, Gene of Woodward, Okla.; five grandchildren, including Lisa Price, Robert McDaniel, both of Augusta, Carla Reida of Wichita, and five greatgrandchildren.

James Johnson dies in Wichita
James Francis Johnson, 83, 2215 Moyle, died today at the Terrace Gardens Retirement Center in Wichita.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church. Rev. Jon Grissom and Rev. Burl Allison Jr., will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 22, 1902 in Joplin, Mo., to Elijah and Martha E. Bryan Johnson.
He married Glenys Alverne Mangus June 24, 1925 in Fredonia. She survives.
He was a retired maintenance supervisor at Mobil Oil Refinery.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Mystic Tie Lodge 74 and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Other survivors include a son, Earl of Joliet, Ill.; a daughter, Marjorie Holman of Wichita; brother, Louis of Midland, Texas; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Lela Johnson of Augusta.

Charles M. Stewart funeral Friday
Charles Milton Stewart, 45, Bartlesville, Okla., son-in-law of Lloyd and Viola Ray of Augusta, died Monday.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel in Bartlesville, Okla. Rev. Jim Leascher will officiate and burial will be in the Memorial Park in Bartlesville.
He was born Sept. 3, 1940 in Monroe, La., to Maurice L. and Cloma Roberson Stewart.
He married Alice Ray on Aug. 23, 1969 in Bartlesville. She survives.
He was a senior process engineer with applied automations at the Phillips Petroleum Co. in Bartlesville.
He was a member of the Eastern Heights Baptist Church, Tau Beta Phi and the Society of Professional Engineers.
Other survivors include sons, David and Doug, both of the home; mother, Cloma Stewart of West Monroe, La.; sisters, Pat Screpetis of Pineville, La., and Nelda Windham of West Monroe.

William B. Thomas dies at hospital
William Blaine Thomas, 76, Sedgwick, died yesterday at Axtell Hospital, Newton. He was the father of Augustan Bill Thomas.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Peterson Funeral Home in Newton. Internment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick.
Thomas is a retired Kaw Transport employee.
He is survived by his wife Naomi of Sedgwick; daughters Mabel Stambeck, Sedgwick, Judy Spencer and Lornia Preson, Newton, and Beverly Hilberling, Tulsa, Okla.; sons Jack and Jerry, both of Newton, Allen of Sedgwick, and Bill of Augusta.
A brother, Donald Thomas, Wichita; sisters Alice Erdwein, Wichita and Josephine Vanscoder, Newton; 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren also survive.

Roger D. Binford dies in Texas
Roger Dale Binford, 35, Austin, Texas, died Jan. 1 in Austin.
Graveside service was at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Douglass Cemetery. Rev. Dan Ferguson officiated.
He was a printer and formerly of Wichita.
Survivors include a son, Stephen of Enid, Okla.; mother, Phyllis Parsons Binford of Beaverton, Ore.; brothers, Greg of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Steven of Hillsboro, Ore.
Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home of Douglass was in charge of arrangements.
