Alvena Settergren dies in Wichita
Alvena Marie Settergren, 71, 1520 Parklane, died yesterday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Dr. Roger Fredrikson and Rev. San Jittawait will officiate. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery and will be private.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church of Wichita.
She was born Aug. 22, 1914 in rural Butler County to Jesse F. and Clara Augusta Mulch Criser.
She married Lawrence R. Settergren Aug. 20, 1941 in Viola. He survives.
She taught in the Wichita school system before she retired. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wichita, the Roundtable Club and the Organ Club.
Other survivors include daughters, Carol Settergren of Raytown, Mo., Kathryn Cain of Orlando, Fla.; mother, Clara Criser of Augusta; a sister, Doris Warner of Viola, and two grandchildren, Deanna and Kristin Cain.

Basil Bond dies at 74
Basil W. Bond, 74, Belle Plaine, former Rose Hill resident, died yesterday at the Veterans Adminstration Hospital in Wichita.
Hilyard-Smith Mortuary in Douglass is in charge of arrangements.
He was a veteran of the Army’s 12th Calvary and saw action in the Philippines and SouthPacific during World War II. Survivors include sisters, Doris Schwabauer of Belle Plaine and Opel Layman of Portland, Ore.; brothers, L.G. Bond of Erie, D.C. Bond of Pittsburg, Calif., N.N. Bond of Culver City, Calif.; nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
The family requests donations in lieu of flowers.

Services set for Ted Poindexter
Ted Poindexter, 73, Indianola, Neb., brother of Maxine Algrim and brother-in-law of Getha Poinexter of Augusta, died Wednesday at a McCook, Neb., hospital.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Carpenter Funeral Home in Indianola. Rev. Russell Shoemaker will officiate. There will be a service at 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of Christ in Augusta. Rev. Bill Buggeln will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Rescue Unit, Indianola, Neb., 69034.
He was born Feb. 27, 1912 in Oblong, Ill., to John and Lilly Treadway Poindexter.
He married Nellie Klingler July 21, 1935 in Butler County. She preceded him in death in December of 1985.
He was a member of the Indianola Masonic Lodge.
Other survivors include a son, Ted of Akron, Colo.; a daughter, Janell Hager of Indianola; a brother, Charles of Trenton, Neb.; another sister, Margaret Albright of Topeka, and 10 grandchildren.
The Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home in McCook is in charge of arrangements.

Commander Kirk dies in California
Retired Navy commander Leone Edward Kirk Jr., 66, Fullerton, Calif., son of Quintella Kirk of Augusta, died in Fullerton Thursday.
His funeral was Saturday.
A memorial has been established with St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton.
Other survivors include his wife, Gennie; sons, Edward Jr. of North Carolina, John of Washington, D.C. and Bill, address unavailable and daughter, Quintella Kirk of Hagerstown, Md.

Helen Lister dies at 90
Helen Lister, 90, Douglass, died Wednesday at a Winfield hospital.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. at the Douglass Cemetery.
She was born Jan. 10, 1896.
Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass was in charge of arrangements.

Delmond Allen dies at 72
Delmond Allen, 72, Oklahoma City, Okla., former Augusta resident and brother of Nadene Norton of Augusta, died Tuesday in Oklahoma City.
His funeral is scheduled for Saturday at the Hahn-Cook-Street and Draper Funeral Home in Oklahoma City.
He worked for Socony Refinery here during the 1930s.
He was an accountant.

Marietta Wirth dies in Wichita
Marietta Wirth, 84, Wichita, former Augusta resident, died Wednesday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Culbertson-Smith Mortuary Chapel in Wichita. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta. Rev. Bruce Gottschall will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the Kidney Foundation of Kansas.
She was born July 28, 1901 in El Dorado to J.P. and Anna Lankford Leedy.
She married Gilbert Cecil Wirth. He preceded her in death in 1969.
Survivors include a son, W.C. of the home; a daughter, Virgina Woolsey of Wichita; sisters, Cora Yates of Wichita, Anna Marshall of El Dorado; two grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
