Schnake funeral tomorrow
George Earl Schnake, a 16-year-old Augusta High School sophomore, died yesterday at his home a half mile east of Augusta on U.S 54.
Schnake, Route 2, was also a paper carrier at The Augusta Daily Gazette. He worked at the paper for five years and delivered The Gazette to downtown businesses and residents.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. George Goudie of First Southern Baptist Church will officiate.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the city cemetery in Pierce City, Mo.
A memorial fund for the family has been established with the Augusta High School, Prairie State Bank and Citadel Bank of Augusta. A memorial has also been established with the Augusta Saddle Club.
Schnake’s body was found yesterday afternoon lying by a

barn near his home a quarter mile east of Augusta on U.S. 54, according to Butler County sheriff Dave Williams.
The sheriff said Schnake apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His brother found the body between 3:30 and 4 p.m.
Schnake had apparently been dead since 8:30 a.m. yesterday, according to deputy county coroner Dr. Ron Varner.
He was born Jan. 12, 1970 in El
Dorado to Earl Wallace and Elcia Mae Ferrell Schnake.
Survivors include his father, Earl Schnake of the home; mother, Elcia Mae Ferrell of Arkansas City; brother, Kenneth Allyn Schnake of the home; half brothers, Earl Wayne Schnake of Augusta; William Lloyd Schnake of Leavenworth, John Irvin of Texas, William Perry Wade of Germany, Victor Eugene Wade of Burden; half sisters, Elica Phillips of Augusta, Pamela Barkee of Aurora, Mo., Marie Langford of Neosho, Mo., and Brenda Huffine of Joplin, Mo., and a grandmother, Opal Schnake of Freistatt, Mo.

Sister dies in Oklahoma
Betty Jane Malsam, 58, Tulsa, Okla., sister of Don Rucker of Douglass, died Saturday at her home.
Her funeral was at 2 p.m. today at the St. Mark’s Methodist Church in Tulsa. Rev. William Richard Ayres officiated and burial was in the Floral Haven Cemetery in Tulsa.
She was born May 13, 1927 in Wichita to Floyd and Lucy Jane Rucker.
She worked in the oil field drafting division of Mobil Oil Refinery.
Survivors also include her husband, Robert John Malsam of the home; a son, Larry Alan of Tulsa, sister, Virginia Bledsoe of Grove, Okla.

John H. Evans died at home
John Henry Evans, 67, Route 2, died at home March 10. His body was found Friday.
His funeral is pending at the Dunsford Funeral Home.
He was born Feb. 23, 1919 in Missouri to Silva and Annie Dickerson Evans.
Survivors include sons, Raymond Earl, Donald Lee; daughters, Annie and Mary, and a brother, Olen.

Herbert Bartel dies in Marion
Herbert Bartel, 73, Hillsboro, father of Donald Bartel of Augusta, died Saturday at a hospital in Marion.
A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Alexanderwohl Cemetery near Goessel. A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in rural Goessel.
A memorial has been established with the Bethesda Home in Goessel.
He was born March 11, 1913 in Marion County to Peter and Anna Schmidt Bartel.
He married Elda M. Bartel June 7, 1945. She survives.
He was a retired farmer.
Other survivors include a son,
Harlan of Newton; daughters, Patricia Penner of Shawnee, Nancy Ferree of Cabool, Mo.; brothers, Adolph, Otto, both of Hillsboro, Paul of Newton, Roland of Eugene, Ore., Peter of Wichita; sisters, Selma Reimer of Walton, Linda Goertzen of Newton, Martha Peters of Hillsboro, and nine grandlchildren.
The Miller Funeral Home in Goessel is in charge of arrangements.
