Clayburn Widener died Friday at 78
Clayburn Widener, 78, Denver, Colo., brother of Elbert Widener of Augusta, died Friday.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Fairmont Mortuary in Denver. He will be cremated and burial will be in the Fort Logan Military Cemetery in Fort Logan, Colo.
Memorials have been established to Hospice and the Shrine Children’s Hospital/Burn Center.
He was born June 23, 1907 in Rock to Edgar and Susan McDaniel Widener.
He married Marie Harrell in Kansas City. She died in 1951.
He married Bernice McCullough Jan. 16, 1955 in Denver. She survives.
Widener was a retired realtor.
He was a member of the El Jevel Shrine of Denver, the Rocky Mountain Optimist Club, the Denver board of realtors, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and American Legion. He was also a member of the Mounclare Methodist Church in Denver. He served in the medical corps during World War II.
Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Sherry McCullough of Seal Beach, Calif.; stepsons, Bryon McCullough of Seal Beach, Calif., and William Harrell of Upper Lake, Calif.; a sister, Grace Ritchey of Lamar, Mo., and three step grandchildren including one whom he raised, Karen Taylor of Trinidad, Colo.

Spencer funeral today
Dixie Lee Spencer, 49, Leon, died Thursday of injuries suffered in a head-on collision near Climax.
Her funeral was at 2 p.m. today in the Flinthills High School auditorium. Rev. Burl Allison Jr. officiated and burial was in the Blankinship Cemetery at Rosalia.
A memorial has been established at Flinthills Middle School where she taught.
She was born Sept. 24, 1936 in Westphalia to Ernest and Jessie E. Merschem Roecker.
She married Walter Spencer June 10, 1956 in Garnett. He survives.
She was a teacher at Flint Hills Middle School in Rosalia.
She was a member of the Emporia Christian Church, the Kansas-National Education Association and the Flinthills Teachers’ Association.

Benjamin Howell dies in Wichita
Benjamin P. Howell, 64, Wichita, brother of Clarence Howell of Augusta, died Monday.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Donwing & Lahey Mortuary in Wichita.
He was a retired self-employed plasterer.
Other survivors include his wife, Karolny; sons, Rodney, David, Martin, Michael, all of Enid, Okla., Douglass of Norwich, Ernest Howell, Jimmy, Mark and Steve Hinckley, all of Wichita; daughters, Linda Pearce of Argonia, Sharon Grogan of Eunice, N.M., Debra, Barbara, both of Enid, Karen Sue, Brenda Staley, Tammy Cole, all of Wichita, Cindy Young of Andover; brothers, Merle, Earl, both of Wichita, Glenn of Haysville, LeRoy Taylor of California; sisters, Pearl of California, Marcile Porter of Wichita and 36 grandchildren.
Other survivors include her father, Ernest Roecker of Ottawa; mother, Jessie Roecker of Lawrence; brothers, Wesley Roecker of Chanute, Robert Roecker of Buena Vista, Colo, Doyle Roecker of Oregon, Mo., Leroy Roecker of Louisburg, Eldon Roecker of Baldwin City, Douglas Roecker of Oregon.
Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado was in charge of arrangements.

Knute Graves dies at 73
Knute Graves, 73, Wichita, brother of Anna Capansky of Douglass, died Saturday at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Cochran Mortuary in Wichita. Rev. C.C. Miller and Rev. Jack Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake-view Gardens Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Grace and Glory Pentacostal Church.
He was born June 6, 1912 in Monroe County, Tennessee to Marion and Della Henry Graves.
He married Faye L. Branton. She survives.
He was a retired Ross Industries Inc. elevator operator and a R.W. Harmon Co. bus driver.
He served with the Army during World War II.
He was a Red Cross volunteer.
Other survivors include sons, Gene Molter of Liberal, Ernie Graves of Wichita, David Graves of Goddard; daughter, Ilah Baty of Wichita; stepsons, Dwayne Waring of Pine Bluff, Ark., Richard Waring, Dwight Rhodes, David Rhodes, Bruce Rhodes, all of Wichita; stepdaughters, Jean Titus, Vicki Doolin, Peggy Hadley, Deanna Watt, all of Wichita; sister, Mary McCoy of Wichita; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 20 step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren.
