‘Lodie’ Hicks dies in Wichita
Lodie ‘Dode” William Hicks, 62, Augusta, died yesterday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Dunsford Funeral Home.
Hicks was an engineer. Before his retirement, he worked for Mobil Refinery in Augusta and Litwin Construction and World Wide Construction companies in Wichita.
He and his late brother, Orbie, owned Hicks Service at Seventh and State. They operated the service station from the late 1940s to Orbie’s death in July of 1983.
Hicks was an officer in the White Eagle Gun Club and a member of the Elks and Kiwanis clubs.
He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Phyllis Ruggles dies in California
Phyllis Ruggles, 68, Lake Isabella, Calif., formerly of Augusta, died there Sunday.
Her funeral will be tomorrow at the Valley Mortuary in Lake Isabella.
She was born in Parkerville June 4, 1917 to Willis and Ila Myers.
She married Kenneth Ruggles. He survives.
From 1950 to 1953, they operated the Seventh Street Grocery here. In 1953, he was transferred to the Mobil refinery in Torrance, Calif.
Other survivors include a daughter, Sandy Maldenhauer and family of Sutherlin, Ore.; sisters, Thelma of Sterling and Sylvia of Reno, Nev.; a cousin, Hazel Martindale of Augusta, and a brother-in-law, Don Ruggles of Augusta.
A sister, Betty, and a brother, Lewis, preceded her in death.
Kenneth Ruggles' address is Box 931, Lake Isabella, Calif., 93240.

Lodie “Dode” Hicks, 62, 704 State Street, died Tuesday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Burl Allison Jr. will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association.
He was born Feb. 16, 1924 in Monticello, Ky., to Bert Arthur and Mattie F. Brown Hicks.
He came to Butler County in 1926. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II.
Since 1946, he had been the co-owner of Hicks Service Station.
He was a member of the B.P.O.E., Kiwanis club, Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.
Survivors include a uncle, Ola
A. Brown and an aunt, Alta Echols, both of Monticello, and numerous cousins.
A brother, Orbie, preceded him in death.

Mark Douglas Bartholomew, 31, 1126 Ohio, died today at his home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Burl Allison Jr. will officiate.

He was born Oct. 24, 1954 in El Dorado to Richard L. and Norma Hamilton Bartholomew.
He was a former manager of Arby’s at Moore, Okla.
He was a member of the
B.P.O.E. and was the organization's tiler.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bartholomew of Augusta, and a brother, Richard Lee Bartholomew II of Almagordo, N.M.

Hattie Leona Tyler, 69, rural Leon, died today at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her funeral is pending at the Dunsford Funeral Home.

Mark Douglas Bartholomew, 31, 1126 Ohio, died yesterday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Burl Allison Jr. will officiate.
He was born Oct. 24, 1954 in El Dorado to Richard L. and Norma Hamilton Bartholomew.
He managed an Arby’s Restaurant at Moore, Okla.
Survivors include his son, Richard Lee II of Almagordo, N.M.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bartholomew of Augusta, and grandmother, Alta Hamilton of Wichita.
