Waldo L. Young dies at hospital
Waldo L. Young, 78, Douglass, died Sunday at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Friends Cemetery in Rose Hill. Rev. Ray Young will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.
He was born Sept. 28, 1907 in Rose Hill to William and Florence Cox Young.
He married Helen Davies Feb. 23, 1937 in Wichita. She preceded him in death.
He was a retired farmer and a Butler County Road Department employee.
Survivors include a son, Larry of Rose Hill; brother, Allan of Escondido, Calif.; sisters, Twylah Cone of Wichita, Ida Beryl Brace of Derby; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass is in charge of arrangements.

Merle E. Gates died Monday
Merle Edward Gates, 69, Wichita, brother of Herbert Gates of Augusta, died Monday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
The rosary will be at 7:30 o’clock tonight at the Cochran Mortuary in Wichita. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Wichita. Rev. James J. Billinger will officiate. There was a cremation.
A memorial has been established with Botanica-Wichita Gardens.
He was born Dec. 4, 1916 in Maize to Herbert and Martha Morgan Gates.
He married Mildred Landwehr June 8, 1941. She survives.
He was a retired high school teacher.
Other survivors include a son, Dan C. of Wichita; daughters, Jane Phares of Midland, Texas, and Nancy Winters of Wichita; another brother, Leverette of Norwich, England, and five grandchildren.
Augusta woman dies from crash injuries

A 74-year-old Augusta woman died from injuries suffered in a three-vehicle accident yesterday a mile east of Augusta on U.S. 54.
Ruby McElroy, 412 E. Fifteenth, died shortly after her arrival at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol spokesman.
Four other Butler County residents were treated at the Augusta Medical Complex for minor injuries.
Clarence Walz, 46, Route 2, and the driver of a Plymouth automobile was taken by ambulance to the local hospital. He was admitted to AMCI where he was listed in good condition.
Sandra Cofield, 33, Leon, who was driving a Ford pickup truck was transported to AMCI in a private vehicle with two other passengers in her vehicle, her 35-year-old husband, Jerry, and their six-year-old daughter, Jennifer.
Trooper Wilbur Wheatley said McElroy was airlifted from the accident scene after emergency medical crews extricated her from the car she was driving.
Wheatley said McElroy's eastbound Buick crossed the center line and struck the westbound Cofield truck near head on. The McElroy vehicle spun and was broadsided by the second west-bound vehicle driven by Walz, according to the trooper.
The accident occurred about 12:30 p.m. East and westbound traffic was diverted around the accident scene for about two hours.

Mina L. Reeser dies at 86
Mina L. Reeser, 86, Pico Rivera, Calif., mother of Doris Cooley of Douglass, died in California Saturday, April 26.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Senter-Smith Mortuary in Mulvane. Rev. Bob Bair will officiate and burial will be in the Mulvane Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Mulvane Senior Center.
She was born Sept. 26, 1899 in Fredricksburg, Ind., to John and Laura Montgomery Cadle.
She married Joseph R. Reeser April 21, 1920 in Medicine Lodge. He preceded her in death in 1965.
She was a retired postmaster in Peck where she lived most of her life.
She was a member of the Peck United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Laugh & Loaf Club near Mulvane.
Other survivors include a son, John of Wichita; daughters, Imogene Frost and Esther Adams, both of Pico Rivera; nine grandchildren, 18 great— grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Joseph A. Gentry dies at AMCI
Joseph Allen Gentry, 95, 1515 Clubhouse Drive, died yesterday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Brooks will officiate and burial will be in the Blankenship Cemetery in Rosalia.
He was born Feb. 18, 1891 in Perry to Joseph Allen and Margaret Miller Gentry.
He married Nellie Thompson Sept. 15, 1962 in Augusta. She survives.
He was a retired tool pusher in the oil field.
Other survivors include a stepson, Forest Womak of Kerrville, Texas; daughter, Frances Kunkle of Wichita; sister-in-law, Edith Gentry of Council Grove, and grandchildren, Bruce and Victoria Ponder.
