Ernest L. Shetler dies in Coffeyville
Ernest Lee Shetler, 85, Coffeyville, father of Marilyn Nelson and Carolyn Watson, both of Augusta, died Thursday at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville. Rev. Glenn Muncey will officiate and burial will be in the Ross Cemetery, west of Neodesha.
Memorials have been established with the Alzheimers Association and the Coffeyville First Baptist Church.
He was born Feb. 7, 1901 in Ferndale, Wash., to Frank and Nora Vining Shetler.
He married Pauline R. Bryan Nov. 15, 1924 in Fredonia. She survives.
He was a retired maintenance supervisor of the Co-Op Refinery in Coffeyville.
Shetler had been a member of the church since 1954. He served on the board of deacons and board of trustees. He was a Sunday school teacher. He served as chairman of the board of deacons. For many years he was the Sunday school superintendent. He was also a licensed lay minister.
He was a member of the Friendship Club and the American Associated of Retired Persons.
Other survivors include a son, Ernest Lee Shetler Jr., of Beaumont, Texas; another daughter, Merideth Powell of Dearing; a brother, Kenneth L. Shetler of Rifle, Colo.; sisters, Oma Haddock of Hays, Marie Patton of Seattle Wash., Winnie Harrison of Hoisington, Alberta Baysinger of Carbondale, Colo., and Violet Ochs of Hoisington; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Retired car dealer Hurst dies, funeral on Monday
J.H. “Jap” Hurst, 74, 255 E.
Summit, died today at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m.
Monday in the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Dick Gorman will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Nov. 20, 1911 in Council, Okla., to Robert and Mattie Ellington Hurst.
He married Geneva Marie Allen Aug. 7, 1933 in Oklahoma City, Okla. She survives.
During World War II, Hurst served in the Pacific Ocean with the U.S. Navy.
He started business in Augusta in 1934 as an insuranceman. He began in the car business in 1947 with Gene Scholfield as the Scholfield-Hurst Motor Co. He retired in 1967.
“He always called Augusta his home,” said his son, Allan. “The most important thing people will remember was his humor. He was filled with optimism and shared it.”
Hurst was a member of the
Loyal Order of the Moose.
Other survivors include a son, Allan of Winter Park, Colo.; six grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
Three brothers preceded him in death.
A memorial fund has been established with the Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 7202 E. Ninth Street, Wichita, Kan., 67206.

Lloyd H. Koehn funeral today
Retired farmer Lloyd H. Koehn, 71, McPherson, father of Howard Koehn of Augusta, died Friday from injureis suffered in a traffic accident.
His funeral was held this morning at the New Gottland Lutheran Church.
In addition to the son here, Koehn leaves his wife, Bonnie; other sons, Wayne, Ronald, and Raydean, all of McPherson; a daughter, Marilyn Shaft of McPherson; brothers, Robert of Austin, Texas, Nelson of Newton; sisters, Mabel and Lila Koehn, both of McPherson, and Verna Dirks of Hesston, and 14 grandchildren.
The Ball & Son Funeral Home at McPherson was in charge of arrangements and a memorial has been established with the church.

Harold A. Dyer
Harry A. Dyer, 70, of El Dorado, died Friday, June 6, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral was held this afternoon at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. He was buried in Hunt Cemetery in Patterson.
Survivors include his wife, Clarice; son, Jon of Leon; sister Ethel Naill of Pine Top, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the American Arthritis Foundation.
