Lewis E. Coombes dies in Wichita
Lewis E. Coombes, 79, Wichita, father of Larry Coombes of Douglass, died yesterday at the Regency Health Care Center nursing home in Wichita.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Douglass Cemetery. Rev. Dan Ferguson will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
He was born Feb. 23, 1907 in Knox City, Mo., to Lawrence and Lucinda Lindsey Coombes.
He married Margaret E. Wintz June 20, 1942 in Wellington. She survives.
He was a retired oil field trucking company owner.
He was a member of the Elks and the American Legion.
Other survivors include a daughter, Marjorie Fox of Mulvane; sisters, Gail Dowler of Tonkawa, Okla., and Hazel Curby of Talala, Okla., and five grandchildren.
Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass is in charge of arrangements.

Frances S. Zehe died in Missouri
Frances Surrell Zehe, Liberty, Mo., formerly of Augusta, died today at Pleasant Valley Manor in Liberty, Mo.
She was born in Chanute and lived in Belle Plain before moving to Augusta. She taught elementary school in Derby and Andover before her retirement.
Mrs. Zehe was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Isabella Weldon Chapter; the United Methodist Church, and the Butler County Retired Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Arthur Zehe, and her son, James W. Zehe. They died in 1985.
Private graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow in the Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty.
The family requests no flowers. Contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in Augusta.

Thelma A. Boyce died in Emporia
Thelma A. Boyce, 75, rural Emporia, mother of Marsha Guard of Augusta, died Friday at her home.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the First Christian Church in Emporia. Rev. Bill Imhoff will officiate and burial will be in the Rosean Cemetery, south of Emporia.
A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church.
She was born Aug. 6, 1910 in Olpe to John E. and Louise Schwindt Richard.
She married Marvin J. Boyce Sept. 14, 1927. He preceded her in death Feb. 26, 1975.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Rosean Social Circle.
Other survivors include sons, Donald M., Glenn D., both of Emporia; daughters, Ruth M. Wieland of Topeka, Lola E. Farr, Helen Thill, both of Emporia; brother, Paul Richard of Emporia; sister, Louise Unruh of Topeka; 22 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and a stepgreat-grandchild.
Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia is in charge of arrangements.

Owen Robison died Friday
Owen O. Robison, 69, Red Bluff, Calif., formerly of Augusta, died July 4 at a California hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
He was the son of Wash and Elma Ross Robison.
Survivors include a son, Ronald of Fort Jones, Calif.; brothers, Hobert of Long Beach, Calif., Wilton of Tustin, Calif., Marion of Redding, Calif., and Ebert of Augusta, and a grandson.
A brother, Acie, preceded him in death.

John Henry Jack died in El Dorado
John Henry Jack, 78, El Dorado, formerly of rural Augusta, died Saturday at the Knutson Manor Nursing Home in El Dorado.
Masonic services will be at 7 o’clock tonight at the Carlson Colonial Chapel in El Dorado. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Leon Cemetery. Rev. Art Wilson will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the Haverhill Christian Church.
He was born July 10, 1907 in Casey, Ill., to Walter F. and Gabrella Stewart Jack.
He married Mae Williams June 23, 1940 in Hutchinson. She survives.
He was a retired tool and die maker at Beech Aircraft Co. in Wichita.
He was a member of the Haverhill Christian Church, Joppa Lodge 223 AF&AM in Leon, the El Dorado York Rite and Little Walnut Chapter 362 Order of the Eastern Star.
Other survivors include sons, Walter, James, Lyle, Dale, Joe, Loren, all of El Dorado; daughters, Carol McDowell of Manhattan and Judy Trecek of Topeka; 23 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
