Fannie E. Gray died in Wichita
Fannie E. Gray, 79, El Dorado, mother of Betty Burden of Leon, died yesterday at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Carlson Colonial Chapel in El Dorado. Rev. Harold Posey will officiate and burial will be in the Blankinship Cemetery in Rosalia.
She was born April 6, 1907 near Reece to Wesley William and Rosetta Helms Beers.
She married Charles P. Gray Feb. 24, 1927 in El Dorado. He preceded her in death in 1942.
Mrs. Gray worked in restaurants and was a cook in an El Dorado nursing before she retired.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in El Dorado and the Little Walnut Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Leon.
Other survivors include sisters, Golda Schueler and Edna Smith, both of Wichita; grandlchildren, Rick Burden and Marlene Glidden, both of Leon; five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, two brothers and two grandsons.
A memorial has been established with the Spina Bifida-Camp Adventure, 413 S. Derby, Derby, Kan.

‘Toad’ Smith dies at 71
James Harlin “Toad” Smith, 71, 1304 Henry, died last night at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, at the First Christian Church of Augusta. Rev. Jon Grissom will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 31, 1914 in Ashley, Okla., as a son of Alta Julian and James H. Smith.
He married Barbara Vivian McVay who preceded him in death in 1975. Smith later
married the former Ilene Primm. She survives.
Before retirement, Smith worked as a treater at the former Mobil Oil refinery here.
In addition to his wife, of the home, Smith leaves two sons, Michael of Los Alamos, N.M., and Daniel Ray of Augusta; two stepsons, Jerry Primm of Augusta and Howard Primm of Rose Hill; three daughters, Sandra Kingsbury, Virginia Small and Nelda Hartness, all of Augusta, and a stepdaughter, Beth Haskin of Douglass, 17 grandchildren and two great-granchildren.

Bishop funeral Tuesday
Alma Gertrude Bishop, 85, Route 1, died Saturday, July, 26, at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, in the Dunford Funeral Home chapel at 10 a.m. Rev. Gus Kubish of Central Baptist Church will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery, El Dorado.
She was born to Bert Martin and Maud McHamberlan, April 7, 1901 in Leon.
She married Frank Bishop, Dec. 25, 1919 in El Dorado. He preceded her in death in 1964.
Mrs. Bishop leaves a daughter,
Lucille Brunton, Augusta; a brother, Clay Martin, Wichita; a sister, Hattie Bishop, Wichita; two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles, in 1985.
Memorials may be made to the Central Baptist Church, Augusta.

Beulah Davis rites today
Beulah Alice Davis, 85, 1624 Washington Lane, was buried this morning in Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Harold Kieler of the First United Methodist Church officiated.
Davis died Friday, July 25, at Augusta Medical Complex.
She was born to Emery Travers and Ida Edwards Travers on April 28, 1901 in Indiana.
She is survived by a son, James A. Davis of Augusta; brothers,
J.E. Travers, Henderson, Ky., and Elwood Travers, Evansville, Ind.; a sister, Mae Byrd, Uniontown, Ky., and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Fred P., a daughter, Wanda, two brothers, and one sister.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Augusta.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta was in charge of arrangements.
