Odis T. Rush dies in hospital
Odis “Hoot” T. Rush, 48, of Augusta died Thursday, July 24, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral was yesterday afternoon in the First Baptist Church in Augusta. Rev. Ray Gilstrap officiated and burial was in the Douglass Cemetery.
Rush, who was employed in parts control at Boeing Military Airplane Company, is survived by his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Rebecca Rush of Marietta, Ga., and Christina Pittman of Wichita; three stepsons, Greg McBee of Douglass, Russ McBee of Dodge City, and Brad McBee of Bush, Colo.; five brothers, Otto of Douglass, John of Augusta, Ray of Evening Shade, Ark., Robert of Jacksonville, Fla., and Hayden of Bates, Ark.; three sisters, Eunice Brandon of Douglass, May Wolf of Marion, and Imodean Asmussen of Augusta; two half brothers, Cory and Rufford, both of Melbourne, Ark.; two half sisters, Audi Cooper and Vedia Moser, both of Melbourne, Ark.; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.

Velna V. Reed funeral Tuesday
Velna V. Reed, 69, Wichita, stepmother of Charles A. Reed of Douglass and sister of Martha Brown at Towanda, died Friday at the St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral service will be 11 o’clock tomorrow morning at the Cochran Mortuary in Wichita. Rev. Sanders B. Clayton of the Wesley United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be in the White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita.
She was born March 10, 1917 in Lincoln, Kan., as a daughter of Jesse and Maude S. Moss.
She married Ralph Reed during an April 5 ceremony in Wichita earlier this year. He survives.
Mrs. Reed was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Wichita.
Also surviving are a daughter, Judy L. Davis of Wichita; a stepdaughter, Clara A. Reed, of Wichita; five other sisters, Barbara Brown, Velma Mae Lewis and Geraldine Elling, all of Wichita, Leona Robinson of Benedict and Mary Cooper of Fredonia, and two grandchildren.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.

Church changed for funeral of J.H. ‘Toad’ Smith
Because of a conflict with another meeting, tomorrow’s funeral service for James Harlin “Toad” Smith will be moved to the First Church of God, 720 State Street, according to a spokesperson for the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta which has charge of the arrangements.
The change was announced yesterday afternoon after Monday’s The Gazette had been printed. The funeral was originally set for the First Christian Church of Augusta.
Smith of 1304 Henry Street died Sunday evening at the St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita at age 71. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the First Church of God. Rev. Jon Grissom will officiate.
Mary D. Jones dies in Harper
Mary D. Jones, 90, mother of Frances Smith of Andover, died Sunday, July 27.
Her funeral was today at the Elliott Funeral Home, Harper.
Other survivors include a sister, May Roberts of Wittensville, Ky.; seven grandchildren;
16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Harper Presbyterian Church.
Mary Jones was a retired nursing home administrator.

Harold Osterloh died Sunday
Harold Lee Osterloh, 64, father of Frank Osterloh of Rose Hill, died Sunday, July 27, in St. Joseph Medical Center, Wichita.
His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Mulvane First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be at Resthaven Garden of Memories.
A retired farmer, Osterloh was born in Shawnee, Okla.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel; four sons, Frank of Rose Hill, Harold of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Ronald and Clifford, both of Derby; three daughters, Fay Frazier of Cortez, Colo., Ruby York of Virginia Beach, Va., and Esther Steerman of Derby; a brother, John of Madell, Okla.; a sister, Ruby Taylor of Gresham, Ore.; and 16 grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the First Church of the Nazarene.

Lowell Skaer service Friday
Lowell M. Skaer, 84, a retired farmer, real estate salesman and oil promoter, died yesterday at the Woodlawn nursing home in Wichita.
His graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at the Elmwood Cemetery here. Rev. Burl Allison Jr. will officiate.
He was born here March 22, 1902 as a son of Arthur Wesley and Grace Moyle Skaer.
Skaer leaves two brothers, Dean of Augusta and Arthur of Wichita, and a sister, Madeline of Augusta.
