Services for Wanda Ray set for tomorrow morning
Wanda Mae Ray, 54, 1025 Money, a veteran Augusta educator, died yesterday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the First United Methodist Church in Augusta. Rev. Harold Kieler will officiate. There will be a funeral at 2 p.m. Friday at the Smith Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Rose, Okla. Burial will be in the Rose, Okla., cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church in Augusta and the Free Will Baptist Church in Rose.
She was born May 21, 1932, in Kenwood, Okla., to C.S. and Dennie Hale Milner.
She married Charles Ray May 1, 1952, in Rose. He survives.
Mrs. Ray had taught second grade at Garfield Elementary School since 1962. She was a member of the National Education Association, the Augusta Education Association and the First United Methodist Church.
She was an avid swimmer and boater, according to Maxine Brixey, a close friend and co-worker at Garfield. She enjoyed reading and wrote short stories
for her own enjoyment.
Other survivors include a son, Charles Jr. of Towanda; father, C.S. Milner of Rose; sisters, Helen Hanna, Mary Bolinger, Janace Fogleman, all of Rose, and two grandchildren, Damien and Kylie of Towanda.
Johnie J. Koester died at 89-years-old today
Johnie Jewel Koester, 89, Augusta, died this morning at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Burl Allison Jr. will officiate.
She was born Sept. 15, 1896 in Missouri to John S. and Sarah E. Morgan Atchley.
She married Otto William Koester Aug. 18, 1915 in Omaha,
Neb. He preceded her in death Nov. 3, 1972.
She lived in Towanda before moving to Augusta.
Survivors include sons, Melvin of Augusta and Glenn of Wichita; a daughter, Eva Shively of Derby; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Two sons and a grandchild preceded her in death.
