Fredonia accident kills Augusta man

An Augusta man was among three people killed by weekend traffic accidents in Kansas.
Donald L. Burns, 50, of Augusta, died Saturday afternoon when the car he was riding in crashed into a ditch on Kansas 96 near Fredonia, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. Three other people in the vehicle were injured.
Injured in the mishap near Fredonia were:
• Shirley R. Burns, 35, of Augusta. She was reported as driver of the vehicle, according to investigating officers.
• Wanda L. Atkinson, 34, of Augusta.
Both were treated for their injuries at
the Fredonia hospital and transferred to the St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. They were reported in fair condition there this morning.
Also hurt in the accident was 10-year-old Janette R. Burns of Augusta. She was reportedly treated and released from the Fredonia hospital for a broken arm.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta has charge of the funeral arrangements for Mr. Burns.
His funeral service will be at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon in the Church of Christ, 1924 Dearborn Street. Bill Buggeln will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born March 10, 1936 in Chico, Texas, to John A. and Rose Mae Smith Bums.
He married Shirley Huddleston Feb. 1, 1974 in Lubbock, Texas. She survives.
He worked for Pratt-Lambert Paint Co. in Andover and was a member of the Church of Christ
Other survivors include a daughter, Jeanette Rose of the home and sisters, Billie Harvick of Gainesville, Texas and Marion Vick of Bloomfield, N.M.
Charles K. Milbradt, 57, of rural Burlingame, died Friday evening at a Topeka hospital from injuries he suffered in a one-car accident five miles west of Burlingame. Authorities said his car left an Osage County road and went into a ditch where it struck a tree.
Kathleen Ann Gideon, 33, of Columbus, was killed Friday night when she was struck by a car in Cherokee County, the patrol said. The accident occurred on Kansas 26, just north of its junction with U.S. 166.

Kathleen L. Grist dies in Wichita
Kathleen Lauer Grist, 35, Wichita, sister-in-law of Augustans Marian Christy, Anna Ayers and Mary Snodgrass, died Sunday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
The rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Webb Mortuary Chapel in Clearwater. The mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Magdalen in Wichita. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the St. John’s Church Cemetery in Clonmel.
Memorials have been established with the National Audobon Society, St. John’s Church Education Center in Clonmel, and the Disabled American Veterans Department of the Kansas Service Foundation.
She was born Jan. 23, 1951 in Wichita to Walter and Bernadine Simon Lauer.
She married George Grist Oct.
20, 1983. He survives.
She was a legal assistant.
Other survivors include a son, Jimmie at home; stepdaughter, Joyce Evans of Newport News, Va.; parents, Walter J. and Bernadine Catherine Lauer of Clearwater; brothers, Kenneth, Earl, Ronald, Daniel, all of Clearwater; sisters, Bernice Martling of Whitewater, Diane Denning of Wichita; grandparents, Mrs. A.P. Lauer of Schultie, Clara Simon of St. Mark’s and three stepgrandchildren.

‘Cricket’ Irvin service tomorrow
Orville ‘Cricket’ Irvin, 75, Anthony, father of Gayle L. Irvin of Augusta, died Sunday in the Anthony hospital.
A graveside service will be 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Spring Grove Cemetery in Anthony. Rev. John Schnelle will officiate.
He was born Aug. 24, 1911 in Anthony to Frank and Nellie McDowell Irvin.
He married Myrtle Angle Nov. 4, 1938 in Medicine Lodge. She preceded him in death Aug. 13, 1981.
He was a section worker with the Santa Fe Railroad.
Other survivors a son, Stanley R. of Columbia, Mo.; a daughter, Carol Wilkinson of Anthony; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The Elliott Mortuary in Anthony is in charge of arrangements.
Jean Shrader died yesterday at 59
Jean Shrader, 59, El Dorado, died Monday at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Rev. Hank Demous will officiate and burial will be in the Towanda, Kan., cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
She was born May 9, 1927 at Keighley to Leslie and Marie Bayes Bair.
She married Bill Shrader July 26, 1946 in El Dorado.
She worked as a bank teller in Towanda, Augusta and Wichita. She was a member of the First Christian Church in El Dorado.
Survivors include daughters, Sharon Starr and Susan Sauers, both of Towanda; mother, Marie Bair of El Dorado; a brother, Robert Bair of Towanda, and five grandchildren.
