George Metsker rites Thursday
Tuesday, November 18, 1986
George Edward Metsker, 69, Route 3, died yesteday at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Johnson will officiate and burial will be in the Dunlap Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 12, 1917 in Douglass to William Roy and Gertrude Mae Richardson Metsker.
He married Joan Nachbor June 29, 1940 in Douglass. She survives.
Mr. Metsker was a retired farmer. He had lived in the Rose Hill and Augusta area most of his life. He was a member of the Kansas-Oklahoma Gasoline Engine Club.
Survivors include sons, Dean Metsker and Dale Metsker, both of Augusta; a daughter, Kay M. Galloway of Centerville, Ohio; a brother, Paul Metsker of Wichita, and six grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society, 1231 S. Longfellow, Wichita, Kan., 67207.

Gary E. Bird died at home
Gary E. Bird, 43, Newton, brother of Raymond Bird and Donna Simon, both of Augusta, died Sunday at his home.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. tomorrow at Downing & Lahey Mortuary in Wichita. Rev. Burl Allison Jr. will officiate. There will be a cremation and his remains will be interred in the Seltzer Cemetery in rural Wichita.
He was born Aug. 15, 1943 in Sedwick to Herman and Maxine Fick Bird.
He married Susan Recker. She survives.
He was an electrician.
Other survivors include daughters, Kimberly, Megan, both of Newton; sisters, Geneva Collins, Phillis Bird, both of Andover, Shirley Piepoint of Wichita.
Memorials have been established with Newton Recreational Center and Methodist Youthville in Newton.

Chester Blair died Saturday
Chester E. Blair, 73, Arkansas City, stepfather of Ray Gilstrap of Augusta, died Saturday at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Arkansas City. Rev. Philip D. Hirtzel officiated and burial was in the Riverview Cemetery in Arkansas City.
He was born April 23, 1913 in Monrovia to William and Elsie Stickler Blair.
He married Thelma M. Wooldridge March 12, 1940. She preceded him in death in 1970.
He married Geraldine Gilstrap in 1975. She survives.
He was a retired projectionist.
Other survivors include a daughter, Judith Stevenson of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; another stepson, Mike Gilstrap of Omaha, Neb.; brothers, C.R., C.W., William, all of Atchison; sisters, Virginia Hager of Atchison, Wanda Boos of Lincoln, Neb., Helen Wheeler of Warsaw, Mo., and five grandchildren.

Adeline H. Miller died in Wichita
Adeline Harbison Miller, 75, Wichita, sister of Helen Holman of Leon, died Sunday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Byrd-Snodgrass Funeral Home. Rev. Lee Drennan will officiate and burial will be in the Old Mission Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 21, 1911 in Kingman to Homer R. and Sadie Pinkerton Young.
She married Dr. Emerson A. Miller. He preceded her in death in 1984.
She owned Adeline’s Beauty Salon in Wichita.
Other survivors include sons, Richard L. Harbison of Wichita, William L. Harbison of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, Homer “Bob” Young of Wichita; sisters, Geraldine Vaught, Mary Coleman, both of Loveland, Colo., Rose Campbell of Seminole, Okla.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Thomas McKinney died in Oklahoma
Thomas Emerson McKinney,
86, Sand Springs, Okla., formerly of Augusta, died Nov. 13 at the Veterans Center in Norman,
Okla.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Monday at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.
He was born March 15, 1900 near Oakfield, Ohio.
He married Lavonna Myers at Pawkuska, Okla., in 1942. She surivives.
He was inducted into the army in 1942 and was stationed in the medical corps in Algeria, North Africa. Later he worked for Mobil Oil Refinery in Augusta and at Cessna Aircraft in Wichita.
Mr. McKinney lived in Augusta from 1944 to 1967 when he moved the family to Sand Springs.
Other survivors include a daughter, Frances Mattocks-Whisman of Okemah, Okla.; a son, James W. McKinney of Ulysses; two nephews and a niece.

Alvin McCalla died Monday at 69
Alvin McCalla, 69, Wenatchee, Wash., father of Robert J. McCalla of Augusta, died Monday at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Wash.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Entiat,
Wash., cemetery.
He was a former Augusta resident.
Other survivors include his wife, Lauraine; daughter, Betty Lyman of Kansas City, Kan.; brother, Fred McCalla of Towanda; sister, Ruby Phillips of Wenatchee; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
