Burris funeral Thursday
Gary Edward Burris, 45, Route 2, died last night at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita from injuries suffered in a tree cutting accident Friday near Leon.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Church of God. Rev. William Lambertson will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established at the Prairie State Bank to help defray medical and funeral expenses for the family. Contributions may be made to The Gary Burris Fund at the bank.
He was born Sept. 11, 1941 in Augusta to Earl Harold and Juanita Dewing Burris.
He married Jackie Taylor on May 28, 1965 in Augusta. She survives.
Burris was a self-employed truck driver after he worked 11 years for the county as a truck driver. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
He was an active sports fan. Burris served on the Augusta Girls’ Softball board and coached girls’ softball for 10 years. When the women’s softball organization was formed here in the early 1980's, he coached women’s softball teams.
Burris was also an emergency medical technician for Butler County.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Gary Douglas Burris of El Dorado; a daughter, Stacy Ann, of the home; brothers, Harold of Wichita and Bob of Augusta; sisters, Marsha Davis of Augusta, Beverly McReynolds of Andover, Gertrude Crum of Wichita, and his mother, Juanita Burris of Augusta.

17 grandchildren
Phyllis Jo Torkelson, 54, Claremore, Okla., formerly of Augusta, who died last week in Ontario, Calif., is survived by 17 grandchildren, not seven as reported in Friday’s Gazette. A funeral service for Mrs. Torkelson was held yesterday in Augusta’s First United Methodist Church and burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery. A memorial has been established with the church.

Edna Frick dies at nursing home
Edna Frick, 89, a resident of Walnut Valley Manor nursing home of Augusta, died there Sunday.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the DeVorss Mortuary in Wichita. Rev. Scott Martin will officiate and burial will be in the Sunset Lawn Cemetery at El Dorado.
A memorial has been established with the First Salem United Church of Christ in Wichita.
She was born Dec. 27, 1896 in Ralston, Okla., to Harrison and Addie May Lowe Seymour.
She married Myron Van Huss Dec. 27, 1915. He died.
She married Claud E. Frick in Sept. 14, 1943. He preceded her in death.
She attended school in Rosalia and attended the Little Walnut Baptist Church in Butler County. She was a member of the Hyde Park Club.
Mrs. Frick was a retired nurse.
Survivors include a son, Melvin H. Van Huss of Grove-land, Calif.; daughter, Mary Black of Woodinville, Wash.; brother, Earl Seymour of Farina, Ill.; sisters, Edith Nixon of El Dorado, Rachel Seymour of San Jose, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Lee Andrus died today
Lee Andrus, 65, Red Bluff, Calif., brother of Ralph Andrus of Augusta, died today at Riverside Hospital in Wichita.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Burl Allison Jr. will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 19, 1921 in Midian to Harry J. and Ella Dora Young Andrus.
He married Elizabeth Bernice Brewer Dec. 26, 1970 in Reno, Nev. She survives.
Mr. Andrus was a warehouseman and a fork lift operator. He served in the military during Would War II.
Other survivors include a daughter, Linda Young of Sioux City, Iowa, and a sister, Ella Mae Whitacre of Valley Center.

Ruth Adams died Monday
Harriet Ruth Adams, 82, Douglass, died Monday at a Winfield hospital.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. today at the McCabe High Prairie Cemetery near Douglass. Rev. Dan Ferguson officiated.
She was born July 16, 1904 in Butler County to John Loyd and Marilla Jane Bare Conder.
She married Ralph Waldo Adams Aug. 18, 1924 in Douglass. He survives.
Mrs. Adams was a retired cook for the Douglass school system. She was a member of the Douglass United Methodist Church and the EHU.
Other survivors include a son, Warren Adams of Cambridge, Ohio; a brother, John Conder of Farmington, N.M.; sisters, Fern Reser of Augusta, Verda Getchel of Bradford, Pa., Margaret Newman of Ellinwood, Louida Stafford of Douglass; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the church.
Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass was in charge of arrangements.
