Helen Hans dies in Great Bend
Former gift shop operator Helen Hans, 84, Great Bend, aunt of Winnie Bohrer and Sue Ellen Allen, both of Douglass, died Wednesday, Dec 24, at a nursing home in Great Bend.
A graveside service was at 1:30 p.m. today at the Great Bend Cemetery. Rev. John Saville officiated.
She was born March 20, 1902 in Sac City, Iowa, to Louis and Ida Schulke Hans.
She was the retired owner of Helen’s Gift Shop and a bookkeeper.
Other survivors include a nephew, Irvin B. Hans Jr. of Salina, and nieces, Marion Ackley of Pratt, Betty of Hutchinson, Ruth Majerur of Falls City, Neb., Lucille Allison of Long Island, N.Y.
Memorials have been established with the Barton County Historical Society and the First United Methodist Church in Great Bend.
The Fryberger Mortuary in Great Bend Was in charge of arrangements.

Iva M. Lanier died Sunday
Iva M. Lanier, 92, a former Douglass resident, died Sunday, Dec. 28, at a nursing home in Derby.
Her funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Douglass United Methodist Church. Rev. Dan Ferguson will officiate and burial will be in the Wilmot Cemetery near Winfield.
A memorial has been established with the Westview Manor Nursing Home in Derby.
She was born Aug. 9, 1894 in Udall to Frank and Frances Jones Adams.
She married Jesse Lanier Aug. 18, 1943 in Winfield. He preceded her in death in 1982.
Mrs. Lanier lived in the Douglass and Udall areas all of her life. She was a charter member of the Richland Home Demonstration Unit. She was a member of the Douglass United Methodist Church for more than 65 years and she was a member of the Methodist Womens Society.
Survivors include daughters, Hester Walley of Jacksonville, Texas, and Lola Mae Hundley of Wichita; a stepson, Irvin D. Lanier of Arlington Heights, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Norma I. Kunkel of Douglass; sisters, Fern Dean of Avon, Ill., and Marie Hall of Atlanta; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Ora A. Cook dies at hospital
Ora A. Cook, 76, El Dorado, mother of L. Darlene Turner of Douglass, died Monday, Dec. 29, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.
Her funeral was at 11 a.m. today at the Carlson Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Martin officiated and burial was in the Walnut Valley Memorial Park in El Dorado.
She was born July 6, 1910 in Osage County, Mo., to Frederic D. and Laura Phillips Roderick.
She married George Greer. He preceded her in death.
She married Howard D. Cook. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Cook was the owner and operator of Cook’s Tavern in rural El Dorado.
Other survivors include sons, Robert and Jack Greer, both of El Dorado; daughters, Betty Lee Grigsby of El Dorado, Rita J. Johnson of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Thelma Moyer of Sprinfield, Ill.; 23 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Arthritis Foundation.
