Fred Thompson Sr. dies at AMCI
Fred Thomas Thompson Sr., 85, 1201 Money, died today at the Augusta Medical Complex Inc.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Frank Miller will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 3, 1901 in Chadwick, Mo., to Levi D. and Sally Ann Smith Thompson.
He married Nellie F. Perkins on May 19, 1919 in Springfield, Mo. She survives.
Mr. Thompson was a retired machinist at Mobil Refinery Co. in Augusta. He was also a cattle trader and a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Other survivors include sons, Fred Jr. of Augusta, L. Dale and J.D. of Fort Collins, Colo.; daughters, Gale Upchurch of Augusta, Barbara Burns of Sepulveda, Calif.; brothers, Al of Lost Springs, Reggie of El Dorado and Chaucey of Rockford, Ill.; sisters, Martha Bums of Fallon, Nev., Ada Cavatt of Arkansas City and Buena Gray of Sparta, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Thelma Hutter, preceded him in death.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.

William S. Scott dies at 63
William S. Scott, 63, Arkansas City, stepson of Mrs. Lloyd L. Scott Sr. of Douglass, died Monday, Dec. 29, at his home.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Arkansas City. Rev. Philip D. Hirtzel will officiate and burial will be in the Highland Cemetery at Winfield.
He was born March 10, 1923 in Douglass to Lloyd L. and
Margaret Shannon Leayman Scott.
He married JoAnn Johnson June 8, 1952 in Winfield. She survives.
Scott was a Cowley County Community College administrator where he served as director of guidance services, dean of general education, dean of students, director of athletics, acting president, dean of administration and student affairs.
Following his graduation from
Douglass High School in 1941, he entered the Air Force where he served until 1945 including 34 months in the North African Theatre of Operations.
He received his bachelor’s degree in 1949 from Southwestern College in Winfield and a master’s degree from Wichita University in 1956.
Other survivors include brothers, Glenroy Leayman of Rock, Lloyd L. Scott Jr. of Wichita; sisters, Betty Ann Stipp of Phoenix, Ariz., Mary Lou Hall of Glendale, Ariz., and Nancy Jane Gilbert of San Diego, Calif.
Memorials have been established with the Cowley County Hospice and the First Presbyterian Church, both of Arkansas City.
The Rindt-Erdman-Oldroyd Funeral Home in Arkansas City is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur Kemmerly died in El Dorado
Arthur Allen Kemmerly, 82, Towanda, brother of Pat Orndorff of Leon, died yesterday at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Rev. Fred Houston will officiate and burial will be in the Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado.
He was bom Feb. 28, 1904 in Morgantown, W.Va., to David Arthur and Mary Elizabeth Landers Kemmerly.
He married Eythel Throckmorton on July 20, 1928 in El Dorado. She survives.
He was a district gauger for Skelly Pipeline. He retired in 1968.
Other survivors include sons, Richard of Benton, Jack of Yuba City, Calif., and Dan of Arroya Grande, Calif.; a daughter, Judy Bullock Parks of El Dorado; sisters, Arnett Rogers and Doris Teter, both of El Dorado; a brother, Paul of Emporia; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
